The Way I Figure It, We Can Either Fight Or Give: Sam Shepard As Butch Cassidy In The Blackthorn Trailer

Here’s how this shakes out:

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is one of my all-time favorite movies.

Sam Shepard is one of my all-time favorite actors who I always feel doesn’t get nearly enough attention, for either his acting or his writing.

Mateo Gil wrote two absolutely unforgettable, marvelous movies that I’ve never quite gotten out of my head: Abre Los Ojos (Open Your Eyes) and Mar Adentro (The Sea Inside.

So when you tell me that Gil directed a movie about an aging Cassidy, going by the name James Blackthorn, living quietly in Bolivia until he stumbles into trouble once again, and that Sam Shepard is playing Butch, well, I sit up and take goddamn notice.

The trailer is good, not great, but it features some absolutely stunning cinematography (it’s filmed on location in Bolivia). It’s not in the same whimsical vein as The film also costars Stephen Rea (!) and Eduardo Noriega.

Watch it:

I feel like I've just seen the entire movie. I'm done. (And yeah, I thought that was Megan Fox for a second there, too.)

Bless you TK. We are in complete agreement on the merits of both BCATSK and Sam Shepard. Thanks for making my morning.

looks pretty badass. It's really nice to see a variety of landscapes in a western. Nice wide shots.
