  • Yeah...I still have no interest in seeing this. At all.

Posted by: KatSings at June 17, 2010 4:13 PM

I love Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, but this movie looks like self righteous crap. Also, I'd expect to see a crappy video game as a companion to the crappy movie.

Posted by: Dangerous Dave at June 17, 2010 4:17 PM

Oh KatSings, I will go for you then. As a generally uninterested non-Cera-fan I had very little interest but the more I see trailers, the more it looks highly silly and entertaining.

Posted by: Anne (in Reno) at June 17, 2010 4:18 PM

    "Self-righteous"? Wha?

Posted by: Jay at June 17, 2010 4:19 PM

I believe that this trailer is relevant to my interests. (You can take away our LOLcats, but I can still find ways to be a douche! Hahahah..oh.)

    What Am I Missing?

    An Awesome Detector.

Posted by: Snath at June 17, 2010 4:28 PM

Pinky, the LOLcats are gone! And (please back me up on this, Godtopus) they're NEVER coming back! Muahahahahahahaha!

Posted by: Justice at June 17, 2010 4:30 PM

Dangerous Dave, you obviously have not seen this, then.

Of course, that's quite the opposite of crappy, in my opinion.

Posted by: Snath at June 17, 2010 4:32 PM

    "Self-righteous"? Wha?

What I mean is that the film is oozing with "look how cool we are because we're hipsters and those who don't like it don't 'get it'"

Posted by: Dangerous Dave at June 17, 2010 4:33 PM

It's based on the graphic novel though... So that's why the movie looks the way it does, because its an adaptation. Not because its hipster and we don't get it.

Posted by: Theseus at June 17, 2010 4:50 PM

I'm still excited. This trailer actually makes me happier than the snippet we saw earlier. I really dislike Michael Cera, and I can't stand Anna Kendrick, and Ramona Flowers' hair is annoying the shit out of me, but I am really digging everything else about this movie. I think it's going to be a really fun experiment in actually bringing comics as a medium to the screen, complete with the goofy visual effects and onomatopoeia, rather than just adapting them into films. Which I know is exactly what some of you are loathing about it, but for me, it is awesome.

Sorry Pajiba, I cannot share in your lack of enthusiasm on this one. It happens. ^_^

Posted by: Nat Kittyface at June 17, 2010 4:54 PM

I have to add, though, that that collection of headlines irritates me with its faux perkiness. For a second there, until I reached the trailer itself, I kind started to hate the movie just because of those headlines.

Posted by: Nat Kittyface at June 17, 2010 4:56 PM

Yeah, I'm gonna say that certain members of PajibaNation are trying too hard to hate this because of leftover Cera Haterade. I am deeply apathetic about Cera, don't know the source material, and am fairly ambivalent about any non-Batman-or-Iron-Man comic movie. Yet this still looks fun.

Sometimes stuff is just fun, ya dig? It's ok, you won't catch CeraCooties.

Posted by: Tammy at June 17, 2010 5:02 PM

Is it just me or does it seem like there is no way this movie could be considered pretentious? I mean is it gonna be great? No. But I don't think it's trying to be any more than what it is. It's mindless fun directed very specifically at a group of people with specific tastes. If you don't get it then congratulations this movie isn't for you. I don't like Michael Cera either. I do like being a big nerd on the other hand.

For all of those self righteous people getting offended at this movie's "hipster" tendencies...You're old. Deal with it. There's nothing wrong with being old. You just get easily confused by technology and Music. You like things that you remember, like bologna sandwiches with ketchup. (Tastes like the good ole days.)

I'm old too it happens. Here very soon I'll be yelling at kids about their hippity hop music and their backwards hats too. But for now I'm still able to chuckle at a movie that's having a little fun at my expense. I mean at least it looks original. It's a uniquely done comic book movie, with nerd dominant tendencies. It's not a remake of a remake of a remake of a bad TV show from the 70's. If you don't wanna see it I get that. You have that hipster chic to live up to. No need to bad mouth a movie cause it's not marketed toward you. Let the nerds play. Go watch The A team. I mean isn't it Kitsche. It's got a guy that looks like Mr. T! I bet he'll say I pity the fool!

Sorry for the rant Pajibans, but I felt like someone had to stick up for this thing.

Posted by: Blank at June 17, 2010 5:18 PM

    Point the first:

YOUTH IN REVOLT WAS HILARIOUS. Eat poo, cera haters. (never saw 100 bc, did hear it was terribad)

    Point the second:
    Arrested Develpment

    Point the third:
    Drunken History

Cera can be brilliant, who cares if he almost always awkwardly mumbles? Woody Allen doesn't get shit for almost always (delightfullly) playing his awkward and mumbly but hilarious self. I guess right now most people don't care about Allen anymore but he's amazing in my books.

    -----

this does not mean i'm excited about scott p. :( quite the opposite. I love the comic, but the movie is lacking in one of the best things about the comic. Cera isn't Scott Pilgrim. I didn't once see that cocky-over-the-top-devilish-rogue-I'm-the-king-of-the-world-and-nothing-can-stop-me-now in the trailer. Unfortunate casting choice (and directing I would imagine, since Cera can do cocky but enthusiasm is a stretch for him), but please don't take it out on Cera, he works hard for the money.

Posted by: Bonnye at June 17, 2010 5:29 PM

Ya know, I never considered myself a Cera hater(I enjoyed Superbad, Arrested Development, etc) but maybe I am?

Maybe it's just Michael Cera that I find so pretentious?

Posted by: Dangerous Dave at June 17, 2010 5:47 PM

Something about this movie just bothers me. No real clue why. I don't plan on delving into it cuz then maybe I'll end up annoying myself.

    Posted by: vdo86 at June 17, 2010 5:59 PM

Is it wrong to be really excited to see Jason Schwartzman wearing his Rushmore glasses again? The idea of Max Fischer as the ultimate evil ex is so appealing that I can withstand the illogical dialogue.

Posted by: valerie at June 17, 2010 6:02 PM

Kind of digging it *Runs for her life*

Posted by: Camilla at June 17, 2010 6:23 PM

Looking forward to it more with each trailer. I have no problem with Cera...I just hated superbad.

Posted by: Adam C at June 17, 2010 6:48 PM

While I have every intention of seeing this movie, I will say it right now: THIS IS PRACTICALLY THE EXACT SAME COMMERCIAL WE'VE SEEN A BILLION TIMES.

Posted by: Jeremy Feist at June 17, 2010 6:57 PM

Kieran Culkin. Kieran Culkin. Kieran Culkin. I love him so much. I will watch this movie, and I will watch it for Kieran Culkin.

Posted by: kate the great at June 17, 2010 7:07 PM

Ya know, I don't like Cera, except in a wanting-to- sexually-humilate sorta way, but I still thought this looked pretty good.

Posted by: Drake at June 17, 2010 7:13 PM

Honestly, this did make the movie look kinda fun. Cera wasn't in full mumble and stutter mode, and I appreciated the use of The Prodigy track in the trailer. Could end up being a matinee for me.

Posted by: Groundloop at June 17, 2010 7:33 PM

This trailer is WAY better than the US one. Seriously. And I love how the video game thing seems to wors throughout the whole movie.

But I kind of feel like it's spoiling me of any pleasant surprises that may be in store for the audience.

It's nice to see Brandon Routh get a part that requires him to speak words, though. Not that I didn't like just staring at his perfect hair and chiseled features all 3492 hours of Superman Returns.

Posted by: A. Sefa at June 17, 2010 9:11 PM

Ok, I was on the fence on this movie but Iggby won me over. Anyone know when the movie opens?

Posted by: tallulahc at June 17, 2010 9:33 PM

Yeah. Not getting the backlash. Edgar Wright love > Micheal Cera hate.

Posted by: Royalewithcheese at June 17, 2010 9:58 PM

This movie looks like is was specifically made for me. Every time I watch the trailer(s) I experience an uncontrollable nerdgasm. It looks fucking fun. I like Cera, I love Wright, I love the cast, the visuals, the energy, the geekiness. I will see this on opening night/day and I will love it.

Posted by: ben at June 17, 2010 10:18 PM

This movie looks incredibly awesome, plus I just realized it has Egg in it, which I wasn't aware of. The first (and possibly only) movie of the year that I'm penciling in for a day of release viewing.

Posted by: Chugga at June 18, 2010 2:26 AM

Yay Superman got a job! His little hand wiping at the end was splendiferous!

Posted by: Mebe at June 18, 2010 5:50 AM

I'm more and more excited every time I see more of this film. I'm no longer cautiously optimistic. I'm at the I'll enjoy it no matter what y'all say point. Unless there's some unannounced actual animal killing, horrendous(er) acting not displayed yet, or a really really crappy sound design, I'm probably gong to love this. I mean, some people just can't take quirky. If you don't like comics and video games, then of course you're going to want to pull your eye brows out with a sharpened nacho in the theater. It's not the film for you.

Posted by: Robert at June 18, 2010 9:51 AM

    Ok, this looks weird.

Posted by: Brian at June 18, 2010 1:21 PM

It's Edgar Wright. What the fuck else do you need to know?

Posted by: Mick J at June 18, 2010 2:15 PM

I think Blank said it best. I really don't get people's irrational hatred of this movie based upon some misperception that its "hipster" or whatever. Its based upon a series of graphic novels, which are based upon a world that combines real life with RPG and anime/manga elements. Winter seems to really be going the whole "Sin City" route of taking what's in the novel and literally translating it to the screen. Thus, the "kapows!", 1 ups, and over the top action, the quirky dialogue and musical references. Instead of railing against something you know nothing/very little about based upon a movie trailer, maybe you should go check out Brien Lee O'Malleys' work instead.

    Haters. All of you.

Posted by: THRILLHO at June 18, 2010 8:50 PM

    Yeah Dustin...

bash the only movie this year, that despite a considerably low budget (30 Mil) is still maintaining a little of it's indie-charm, while trying to be actually a little fun.

The can't all be splice or the human centipede.

I know, I know ... trailers overexposure etc. ... bla bla bla .... wanna know how a movie earns an audience, commercialism - huge audience = commercial interest, which could lead to a trend to actually produce more movies that are maybe sometimes worth the trailer-induced hope.

The only reason anyone could develop premature hatred for Scott Pilgrim is Michael Cera ... I'm not a fan of his acting either, but Jesus if Joseph Gordon Levit would star, you're frustration would turn into a weird full-grown fetish in no time.

Get over yourself, we all had a hard summer, with less than desirable cinematic turds ... and more to come.

    Embrace your inner nerd Dustin
