After 15 years in and out of development, we finally have a trailer for the film adaptation of The Giver. For those of you who didn’t have this book at the hub of your developmental years, The Giver is the story of a future society in which all the bad, messy stuff (war, pain, feelings in general, color) has been done away with, with one person acting as the holder of all of the world’s memories from before the “Sameness” smoothed things out. It’s a quiet, simple, chilling story about a young boy’s internal struggle to come to terms with his role in society. Not that you’d get any of that from the trailer.

Instead, we get action sequences! Spacecopters! Grown men instead of 12 year old boys! Bright flashy colors! Taylor Swift!

Sure, there’s some Streep and some Bridges thrown in to get our hopes up, but personally I think we should be readying our pitchforks.

The Giver is set to be released in August, if you’re into that kind of thing.

Vivian Kane made the mistake of seeing the movie adaptation of ‘Tuck Everlasting’ and a small piece of her died that day.
