The First Battle Clip From 'X-Men: Days Of Future Past' Does A Lot Of Things Right

I’m still annoyed that the focus of Days of Future Past was shifted from Kitty Pryde to Wolverine, and I’m still concerned with what can only be called mutant overload in this film — too many characters, which means that many of them will end up neglected.

But this clip is actually pretty solid. It obviously takes place in the film’s dystopian future, where mutants are hunted by human-created robots called Sentinels. In the comics, the Sentinels are giant, massive robots, though I believe the film will be a combination of human-sized ones (seen here) and larger, 20+ feet tall ones — though none as enormous as in the comics.

Anyway, the clip below features Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page), Iceman (Shawn Ashmore), Warpath (Booboo Stewart), Bishop (Omar Sy), Colossus (Daniel Cudmore), Sunspot (Adam Canto), and Blink (Bingbing Fan) as their hideout is assaulted by Sentinels (I’m assuming they’re Sentinels, anyway). It’s a solid bit of action, not nearly as awkwardly assembled as some of director Brian Singer’s earlier X-Men work, with each person’s powers on display just enough so you get a good grasp on their abilities. The effects work is solid, although I’m not 100% sold on the design of the robots just yet.

Take a look:
