The Dictator Trailer: Sacha Baron Cohen Rules With An Iron Fist. And Stupidity

It’s not that I don’t enjoy parody or satire. I do. God, do I. I mean shit, I write on this site for you assholes. And it’s not that I don’t like Sacha Baron Cohen — I uncomfortably enjoyed Borat and was quite a fan of “Da Ali G Show.”

But I felt that Bruno was awful, and based solely on the trailer, The Dictator isn’t doing much to persuade me that he can reclaim his comic brilliance. I like the idea of a dictatorial satire, and I even like the idea of Cohen taking on the lead. But this is bush league stuff, nothing particularly clever or funny about it. It’s low hanging fruit, lowest denominator crap, complete with goofy-assed music videos and montages. I’d much rather see something a little smarter, you know?

Hell, I’d rather just watch Moon Over Parador.

Anyway, here’s the trailer:

God, this is awful. I adore Sacha Baron Cohen, I loved Borat so much but this is just plain terrible. Why would he do this? Even worse why would he do this to us

They should have done Osama Bin Laden instead. At least it would have had some edge.

He filmed most of this in NYC. Judging from what I've heard from people who saw him working, there's a chance his turns out decent. He pulled a lot of really messed up stunts that turned out horrible for him and the cameras kept rolling.

Um John C Reily is in this which I kinda understand some of his choices are crap comedy - but i thought he moved on from that. But I am just embarrassed for Sir Ben Kingsley.

SBC seems to be following in Adam Sandler's footsteps.
