Take a Look at These Crazy Eyes, Mama Tell Me if I'll Be All Right

We posted the first trailer for The Crazies, a remake of the little-seen 1973 George Romero flick, a couple of months ago. And if I may say, it looks like it’s got serious shit-your-pants-scary potential. I can only hope it lives up to that potential. The plot, about a small town where your friends and neighbors go inexplicably insane and start killing people, is full of terrifying possibilities. Plus — Timothy Olyphant in sheriff mode again. And Radha Mitchell. These are all good things, people.

This time around, it’s directed by Breck Eisner, who does not exactly have the strongest resume (Sahara… blech). But for now I’ll give him a mulligan for that, and hope for the best. The first trailer is a little more effective, although the money shot at the end of this one is pretty fun.

Anyway, here’s the trailer. Yes, it has all the trimmings of a zombie flick, but it’s not, and in some ways, it seems a little creepier. I’m, as they say, cautiously optimistic.

I think I am going to go past the "cautiously excited" at this point and say that I am goddamn excited for this. Trailer alone got me creeped out.

Yeah. We'll just add this to the long list of horror movies I have no intention of seeing. For those of you who are into such things, I have my fingers crossed that this is good. Even if I don't have any personal desire to be scared to death for no reason, doesn't mean I don't want my friends who do to be stuck with crappy movies. You definitely deserve some quality horror.

The original The Crazies is a solid little horror picture with some room for improvement. This might do it. I'm loving the use of music just in the trailer (whistling, humming, and I'm sure there's more in the film).

I'm trying to think of the last time a horror remake excited me so. Funny Games, maybe, because of the cast? The Strangers? No, it was [REC] and I was only marginally disappointed.

I'll be seeing it on opening day if possible.

How'd I miss the first trailer? I like the idea of hordes of people with malfunctioning brains. They don't just have some zombie-like instinct to mindlessly kill and eat; these guys get creative.

Although the military involvement makes me worry a bit that they'll fall back on the tired ending of one lone survivor escaping the net only to inadvertently spread the virus to the whole world.

Timothy Olyphant should always be in a lawman uniform, period. He was my favorite in Deadwood, hands down.

Move over, gp, I saw her first!

I caught this trailer a day or so ago and it scared me enough that I don't want to watch it again.

I'm there. I was a little apprehensive when I heard they were remaking a Romero flick, but this looks solid. They may have finally improved on an original.

I don't know... As re-makes or Romero flicks go, as for as I am concerned, folks are 2-for-2. Did they improve on the originals? Hrmm... That's debateable, but I thought both the re-make of "Night" and "Day" were excellent and worthy of having been re-made. Based on that, if anyone's movies are worth being re-made, it appears Romero's are a worthy candidate.

(Note: I have never seen, nor do I acknowledge, the existence of, a re-made/new "Day of The Living Dead".)

Now that's what I'm talking 'bout!!

Olyphant. Crazy people. Zombies not zombies. YES!!

I am far too excited about this. Please, please, don't let it be a dud.

I am suspicious. I may cling to my copy of Pontypool as backup salvation. I don't dare to hope.

I saw the first trailer in the theater, and everyone seemed really into it - until the title card came up reading "The Crazies." Then most of the people in the audience started to giggle a little bit.

this is probably really 20th-century-american-lit-nerd of me, but am i the only one who thinks that the town's name is really cute/funny?

À Bas Ben Adhem

My fellow man I do not care for.
I often ask me, What's he there for?
The only answer I can find
Is, Reproduction of his kind.
If I'm supposed to swallow that,
Winnetka is my habitat.
Isn't it time to carve Hic Jacet
Above that Reproduction racket?

To make the matter more succint:
Suppose my fellow man extinct.
Why, who would not approve the plan
Save possibly my fellow man?
Yet with a politician's voice
He names himself as Nature's choice.

The finest of the human race
Are bad in figure, worse in face.
Yet just because they have two legs
And come from storks instead of eggs
They count the spacious firmament
As something to be charged and sent.

Though man created cross-town traffic,
The Daily Mirror, News and Graphic,
The pastoral fight and fighting pastor,
And Queen Marie and Lady Astor,
He hails himself with drum and fife
And bullies lower forms of life.

Not that I think much depends
On how we treat our feathered friends,
Or hold the wrinkled elephant
A nobler creature than my aunt.
It's simply that I'm sure I can
Get on without my fellow man.

I like.

I missed the first trailer and will now be sending this to my sister who will be totally creeped out.
