Never let it be said that Robert Redford doesn’t choose ambitious projects.

Here’s the trailer for The Conspirator, a film about the trial of Mary Surratt in the aftermath of the assassination of President Lincoln. It’s got an absolute murderer’s row of a cast — James McAvoy, Tom Wilkinson, Danny Huston, Robin Wright, Kevin Kline, Stephen Root, Colm Meaney, and Evan Rachel Wood.

Synopsis!

Directed by Robert Redford and starring James McAvoy and Robin Wright, THE CONSPIRATOR tells the powerful story of a woman who would do anything to protect her family, and the young man who risked everything to save her. In the wake of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, seven men and one woman are arrested and charged with conspiring to kill the President, Vice President, and Secretary of State. The lone woman charged, Mary Surratt (Robin Wright), owns a boarding house where John Wilkes Booth, and others met and planned the simultaneous attacks.Against the ominous back-drop of post-Civil War Washington, newly-minted lawyer, Frederick Aiken (James McAvoy), a 28-year-old Union war-hero, reluctantly agrees to defend Surratt before a military tribunal. Aiken realizes his client may be innocent and that she is being used as bait and hostage in order to capture the only conspirator to have escaped a massive manhunt, her own son, John. As the nation turns against her, Surratt is forced to rely on Aiken to uncover the truth and save her life.

I have to say, the trailer doesn’t really do it for me, but frankly I don’t care. Imma watch the ass off this thing.

Redford directed the SHIT out of Quiz Show, so I'll be looking forward to this.

That's the same trailer music used in Avatar, and it really doesn't fit this one. I can't even make a judgment until I see it with a non-horrible soundtrack.

First of all, let me take a moment to delight in the juxtaposition of a UFC commercial and this trailer. Go SHOWTIME!

Someone needs to show this to all the boys and girls in Trailer School.

I have to watch this just to see my hometown of Savannah made up as DC.

Let me be the first to lust after the McAvoy....

*wipes chin*

One of my best friends, a history major, will definitely be all over this so I'm guessing I'll be dragged to see this whether I want to or not.

So glad to see Robin Wright's career flourishing post-divorce (because you can just sense that, at some point in their marriage, Sean probably made her believe that her association with him ensured she still had a career).

Does anyone else think that Rory Gilmore and The Mac might be outclassed here? Just a little?

I'm slowly but surely coming around to the McAvoy camp. If he were taller I'd be crushing on him pretty hard. As of now I just love how unusually handsome and talented he is.

Also strangely sexy.

Redford's a great director and I love pretty much anything Lincoln. Anyone else following the story of the altered pardon?

Robert Redford has directed the only movies I have fallen asleep in. He is the most boring director I've ever seen. I will not be watching this.

I moved away from Savannah right before this was filmed, and that may be the worst decision I've ever made. I missed the chance to be within a 10 mile radius of The McAvoy for months. I'll definitely be checking this out.

My erythrocytes just started running faster for all the right reasons.

Is it challenging to my heterosexuality that I'm in just because of McAvoy? Whatever, I'm going with it. Guy really invests in his roles and it shows.

Did I see Justin Long in that trailer? Really? Hmm... when I think "period piece" I don't immediately go to Jusin Long. And, yes, not the best preview. But I will totally see this because yes, MacAvoy, and yes, Quiz Show.

Period piece and a courtroom drama, seems like a recipe for avoidance.

But will it be screened in 3-D?
(kidding. KIDDING. seriously, stop ... ow.)
