The Adventures of Tintin Trailer: Spielberg Puts a Mo-Cap In Yo' Ass

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a terrible trailer. It’s not just the motion-capture animation style, it’s the content. It gives us very little, other than an alienating animation style. The trailer is kind of pointless — if this is the best tease they have to offer, there’s no point. If the full trailer (and ultimately, the movie) is much better than what is on offer here, then wait until there’s better footage available. This is going to turn folks off before the marketing can even gain steam. It’s a bad trailer, and the only thing that keeps me interesting in Tintin is what kept me interested before the teaser: Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright, Steven Spielberg, Daniel Craig, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Jamie Bell.

That looks more like a video game than anything. A video game that I probably wouldn't play.

I'm with Owen. I reckon he was actually shagging the dog.

Seemed appropriately teasy to me...

At least they got Tilda Swinton to play TinTin.

For some of us, Tintin is like LOTR. We already know the story but want to see what a talented director can do with it. And the cast is a dream. Appealing to the kids crowd while dragging in the adults for whom it was designed is not an easy task. If it means a relief from boy-men movies and superheroes, I'll take it.

I'm gonna have to write again what I wrote on the other Tintin post: the tone is really off for me. I never saw Tintin as dark. Every character save Tintin was involved in some goofy, slapsticky comedy. The dark, shadowy look of the trailer really doesn't gel well with the bright, colorful panels I remember from the comic books.

no.

That's not what Tintin or the Captain look like.

Also, Tintin is not British, he is Belge.

And finally, which damn adventure? 'Cause he sure had a lot of them.

No me gusta. At. All.

I've made a decision.

I love Tin Tin. Loooooooove Tin Tin. The books were some of the first things I ever read, and I've reread them all into exhaustion. They're a huge part of my childhood.

So this movie? Doesn't exist. I will now block it from my mind, and it will never, ever happen.

Hey, it worked with that fourth Indiana Jones movie everyone says happened, but I know they're just lying and or they hallucinated that whole thing.

Never happened. Lala.

I don't care what it looks like - I'll watch it just because it's Tintin.

Posted by: denesteak at May 17, 2011 11:50 AM

I will not watch this movie.

I can't wait to see it; I wonder how many pop culture references will it have that most only geeks will get?

And When will Tintin go all timey wimey so he can go back rescue his Captain Haddock and the Thompsons so they can rescue him, so he can go and rescue them?

/I keed. Not on the can't wait to see it bit( though I will have to wait, as I don't have a TARDIS)

How can Snowy work in a movie? Subtitles? They need a way to express his internal monologue.
I'd actually be ok if he was the only character that had thought bubbles popping up over his little head.
(And the Thompsons peering through holes in a newspaper was exactly what I like to see)

Don't understand all the negativity, I am a huge Tin Tin fan, I read all the books as a kid and can't wait til my doughter is old enough so I can read them to her. I thought that teaser was awsome. I can't wait til I see that movie in the Theater. I love that the characters look like they do in the books. As a European I can't wait.

The teaser teased me and I want to find out more about it.

What an incredible fucking idea!

I don't care how bad it looks, as long as a rhinoceros gets dynamited, I'm in.

Posted by: Blake Shrapnel at May 17, 2011 2:32 PM

this looks incredible!

I actually liked this trailer. It seems to me to almost be an animated adventure for adults. Especially with the dark colors and elements of spy intrigue.

Posted by: DeistBrawler at May 17, 2011 2:46 PM

I thought Rin Tin Tin was a German shepherd?

What the hell is wrong with you guys? Didn't you see that ship sail across the desert sand? How nifty-kai-yay! I wish I could buy popcorn now! Sign me up! And then lock the door!

if one show had a theme song that was worthy of being used in a trailer for it's feature film... well it would be captain planet but Tintins a close second. Instead we get this song?

Posted by: ben at May 18, 2011 7:19 AM

Why is it animated? And in 3D? WHY?
