... and the 2010 Oscar for Best Picture Goes To?

Last week, I wrote my predictions for the 2010 Academy Awards, but I apparently missed a movie that’s sneaked under the radar up until now. You don’t too often hear about horror movies that are good enough to warrant Oscar consideration, but I suspect that the Academy will look long and hard at this movie. Satirically titled, Terror at Blood Fart Lake, this movie — written and directed by Chris Seaver — is an examination of the quick-buck horror industry, focusing on how Hollywood studios have perfected the art of designing horror movies on the cheap with major focus on creating a winning trailer and collecting a large audience on opening weekend before word-of-mouth kills it’s box-office. Think Scream, focused not on on horror movie tropes, but on the filmmaking and marketing professionals behind them.
It’s a smart idea, and something that we’ve discussed at length over the years on Pajiba. It features a cast of mostly unknowns, but then again, not many people knew who Ellen Page was before Juno. Terror at Blood Fart Lake may not, ultimately, strike Oscar gold, but it could be a prime dark horse candidate.
