Star Wars and The Family Guy Finally Meet!

Two Wrongs Don't Make a Right / Dustin Rowles

Oh, man! This is SO awesome. Fox has managed to combine two of the most overrated things on the entire planet into one huge omeyetearsofjoygod! bolus of overrated suck: Star Wars and “Family Guy.” Watch this: I’m gonna concentrate really, really hard — like, forehead wrinkles and sphincter coiling hard — and I’m going to do my best to give a shit.

*EemmmmmMMMMMMMRRrrrrRRGGHHHHH*

Damn. Nope. Can’t do it.

Here’s the trailer for Something Something Something Dark Side (which you can download on iTunes). It will retell the story of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back as “Blue Harvest” did with Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, recasting characters from Family Guy into roles from the film. My favorite parts are the 4th grade humor, the ethnic stereotypes, and the part where the husband punches the wife in the face! Awesome! Thanks, Seth MacFarlane. I hope someone seals your asshole shut and you drown in your own feces!

I could have sworn that this came out already.

Just give me the Robot Chicken Star Wars episodes and I'll watch those again. So much better.

Thanks, Seth MacFarlane. I hope someone seals your asshole shut and you drown in your own feces!

If someone can forward his resume, we're always looking to fill more openings.

I don't remember, did I read it here...their parodies aren't really parodies so much as they are placing their characters into classic movies and just having them reenact the scenes. They don't have to make a joke because the fans just eat that shit up.

I could tell Family Guy was going to suck from the first time it came back on the air. It was as if it was being produced by fans who'd been watching the DVDs for the last four years and just wanted their chance to do a Family Guy episode.

Seriously, how long can one person do the same thing over and over? Is it the money(I'm looking at you, Simpsons?

Posted by: pissant at November 25, 2009 10:41 AM

Ugh, I just keep getting more pissed off about this stupid show. They named this goddamned shit after a joke they made in another Family Guy episode! A joke that wasn't even funny to begin with! ARE YOU PROUD OF YOURSELVES, YOU FUCKING ASSHOLES? IT'S NOT FUNNY!

Posted by: Snath at November 25, 2009 10:48 AM

Does anyone still like this show? I know that younger kids probably do because it's still crass and that's right up their alley but do adults still like this show? I watched The Cleveland show a few days ago and they had a fat woman character, who I'm assuming was supposed to be Madea, who would fart and then say "I'm outrageous" every time you saw her (which was often). There were also two extended puking scenes.

I laughed a little.

The popularity of this show confuses me. Must be the same people who think Larry the Cable Guy is funny. I mean, apparently this McFarlane guy has found an audience, and good for him, I guess, but... I just don't get it. Not because I'm stupid, but because the jokes aren't funny.

Posted by: Slash at November 25, 2009 10:56 AM

Oh, I get it. It doesn't reference obscure Indie films or let you make use of your English Lit degrees, so it's not funny. "We're so mature and intelligent, let's watch some more Daily Show and sniff each other's assholes, then we can comment about it on Pajiba"

Posted by: Pat at November 25, 2009 11:22 AM

No, Pat. When something is so painfully unfunny as family guy is, and when they're shitting all over Star Wars, we're gonna get PISSED. You don't have to be a hipster, or like indie movies for family guy to make you want to kill something.

All you need is half a brain (nay, a quarter) which you, Sir or Madam or Ass Carbuncle, are clearly lacking.

Hmm, a bit early in the thread for trolling. Looks like somebody was a good boy and got some extra time on the group home computer.

Forget you all.

Family Guy is hilarious! It is so random and rediculous that i's like it was written by a couple of whales who just pick random words and form analogies...wait...that was an episode of South Park.

Seriously though, Family Guy is like a modern Monte Python's And Now for Something Completely Different.

Posted by: Griz at November 25, 2009 11:34 AM

No, Griz, you already referenced the modern Monty Python yourself: South Park.

Shh, dude, you're gonne give Seth more ideas for the Sarlaac sequence in the inevitable Return of the Jedi "parody."

For the record, I love the original Star Wars, but I've yet to see one of these "tributes" that hasn't sucked ass, and I highly doubt Family Guy will the the one to break that trend.

Posted by: Irving Washington at November 25, 2009 11:51 AM

Blah blah blah Family Guy sucks blah blah blah

Whatever. That video made me chuckle.

No, Griz, you already referenced the modern Monty Python yourself: South Park.
Posted by: Snath at November 25, 2009 11:42 AM

Really? I'm a Monty Python fan, and never once did I ever see an episode where they denied global warming, said it was okay to say the word "fag" no matter what, or made all homosexuals out to either be complete perverts or men who want to be women. Maybe that's because Monty Python, unlike South Park, was never so preachy it dilluted all the comedy and made it completely annoying. I'm not saying Family Guy carries that mantle either; I enjoy Family guy (and no, I don't think Larry the Cable Guy is in any way amusing.), but no way is it THAT funny.

For the record, I like to think I have a real handle on comedy. I've studied comedians for years, how they move when they talk, how certain jokes work and why certain jokes fail. I overanalyze comedy to death, and like many of the people on this site, I hate to death all the asinine Dane Cooks and Carlos Mencias of the world. But really, it's the absurdism of Family Guy that gets me more than anything. Not every joke works (in some episodes, only a few do), but the ones that land do so very well for me. When they have a message that I think is out of line, I call them out on it. But when they do shit like the "Live Ostrich" bit, or basically any time where Brian acts like a real dog, I can't stop laughing.

It's not in the galaxy of Arrested Development, but I like it more than South Park.

Does anyone watch that show anymore for any plotline other than Stewie's? And even then, it's hit or miss.

Posted by: Minty at November 25, 2009 1:36 PM

The baby amuses. The dog sometimes, too.

Stating that it's the modern day Monty Python, however, is something I think we can all agree to take exception to. Good comedy is hard to make, for performer and writer alike. To produce the level of comedy you see in ANY Monty Python effort requires Herculean amounts of talent and energy, comparatively.

I will occasionally chuckle at Family Guy, mostly for the baby. But let's not be hasty and call it something it's not. It's Seth McFarland and Alex Borstein sitting in a sound booth, spouting random non-sequiturs, not fucking rocket science.

Blow it out your ass, Rowles.

Your anti-McFarlane pro-Reynolds agenda has been thoroughly documented.

RE figgy
"When something is so painfully unfunny as family guy is, and when they're shitting all over Star Wars, we're gonna get PISSED."

I'm not pissed, I just think it isn't funny. Just like I think most of Seinfeld isn't funny. I don't doubt the intelligence of Seinfeld fans the way I do the intelligence of Family Guy (or Larry the Cable Guy) fans, though. Personally, I think Family Guy is an elaborate (and profitable) joke by McFarlane: "I wonder how many people will think that a thousand random, not-all-that-funny-themselves-originally references grafted onto a cartoon is hilarious?" The answer: quite a few. Oh well.

Family Guy is someone's poor imitation of The Simpsons. Maybe that's the joke, too. Man, I need to draw a cartoon of a steaming pile of dog doo. That talks. And references Star Wars. Maybe I can get a show on Fox, too.

Posted by: Slash at November 25, 2009 5:00 PM

Star Wars isn't overrated, but I'll forgive that comment due to the image of that prick MacFarlene drowning in his own feces. I hate him that much.

Posted by: George at November 25, 2009 7:37 PM

Sure, some of the gags in this little "trailer" were dismissable, but the others had me chuckling, and at the very least, snickering. I liked "Blue Harvest", and I like "Family Guy" when it has its good episodes and bad. My judgment on comedy isn't what you would call passable, over the years I've really started disliking Dane Cook and I think I've always hated Carlos Mencia. George Carlin, Louis CK, Jerry Seinfeld, Larry David, these are the comedians I watch, and I laugh every time because every one of them are geniuses. So I'm not a witless drone that goes to see every one of the "Movie" movies in theaters. I don't give those wastes of celluloid a fighting chance. But I find "Family Guy" to be quite funny, especially when it doesn't have to rely on cheap humor to get a laugh out. If you watch enough, you can find a few witty, smart punchlines in there, and that's why I watch it. Come on, last Sunday when Quagmire told Brian as to why he hated him is one of my favorite comedy scenes of all time. It was written so well, and you felt sorry for Brian while wanting it to go on. That's good comedy, which is very hard to come by these days. "Family Guy" isn't the best, but it's not the worst either.

I do think that Seth should get less air time on Sundays, however. He has 3 shows in the cartoon block! That's ridiculous. "Family Guy" is the only watchable one. I haven't seen "Cleveland Show" once and I don't plan to anytime soon. Bring back "King of the Hill", premiere a new cartoon (not created by Seth) with an original and intriguing synopsis, and cancel the godawful "Cleveland Show" and "American Dad". Seth really only shines in one show, and that's "Family Guy".

I know the people who watch this show. I work in a cinema. This means the age range of people I work with is (for the most part) from 14-20.

What's sad is, sometimes something funny will happen while everyone is carrying on with their business, but this moment is then squandered when some teenager says "Ha! Just like that time in Family Guy, when...".
This happens all the fucking time.

When I don't laugh along with them, I have to explain that I don't watch Family Guy, because I haven't seen it do anything funny in years, and I couldn't even quote whatever that moment was. This will usually get a response of stunned, borderline offended, silence. Amazing, no?

The only other people I know who enjoy the show are my flatmates, who are in their 20's. It should be noted, however, that they are -relentless- stoners. Real full-timers. I'm sure there are others who can find some entertainment value in there, but I think you have to fall into one of those two categories to appreciate it.

Ehh. Fuck indie films and I certainly don't have an English lit degree. I question my maturity AND my intelligence and only catch the Daily Show a few times a month. All that being said, I don't get The Family Guy at all. They always seem to go for obvious jokes and the aesthetics suck ass. Seth MacFarlane and his sychophants can drown in their own feces indeed.

Pajiba appears to be turning into "me too" central.

I hate (fill in this blank).

Ya me too.

Yup, me too.

Lame.

Family Guy is funny. Blue Harvest was great, and so shall SSDS and whatever the third unnamed cover will be called.

If it's popular, let's hate it?

Let's be productive, and give hate where it's deserved(twilight).

We can at least all agree(and by "we" I mean the haters) that Family Guy > Twilight, right?

Obviously. So let's (the haters) all pool all this me too hatred, and apply it to where it's better deserved(twilight).

Happy Turkey Day!

This thread is the Carlos Mencia of threads.

Posted by: hellob at November 26, 2009 9:53 PM

I missed a Family Guy thread? Darn.

Family Guy is dung. Utter dung.

The righteous indignation expressed here actually defending this drek is astounding.

Posted by: DarthCorleone at November 28, 2009 2:29 AM

My boyfriend made me watch Blue Harvest and then was pissed off that I glowered through the entire thing. Robot Chicken Star Wars (I and II)? Hilarious. Dr. Ball M.D. is genius. Blue Harvest? A pile of crap. If it were an ice cream flavor, it would be pralines and dick.
