So Anxious, We Don't Care How Crappy the View: Even from Between the Seats, Brave Trailer Looks Fantastic

I’ve got kids, but that doesn’t mean I’m happy when most children’s movies hit the theater. In fact, you couldn’t drag me kicking and screaming to see Cars 2 (though I did consider it when I heard Pixar’s Brave trailer would be attached to the film). Instead, I have been stalking the interwebs, waiting for someone to get that first copy up and whaddayaknow…here it is. Never mind the fact that it starts out looking a little like a “Mystery Science Theater 3000” episode, because once it gets going, you can almost forget that you’re watching through the seats.

Brave is set in the Scottish Highlands, and follows a young Princess who longs to follow her passion, which—as is the norm—goes against tradition and her parents’ wishes. An avid archer, Princess Merida takes a course of action that reaps severe consequences and the young girl must summon all her courage to try to set things right. But you don’t care about all that; you just want to see the trailer:

Disney Pixar’s Brave boasts a glorious cast, including Emma Thompson, Julie Walters, Robbie Coltrane, Billy Connolly, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson and Kelly Macdonald as Princess Merida. Sadly, it doesn’t hit theaters until June 22, 2012, so we’ll have to content ourselves with re-watching the real trailer (when we get it) over and over.

I love that her hair is nuts.

And. Excitement.

*APPLAUSE*

This is why my love for Pixar shall never go cold, even in the face of such tripe as Cars 2.

It's gonna be a long 12 months.

A ginger Scottish princess movie? Oh, Pixar, don't tease me so. Just rush this out as fast as you can without compromising the quality of voice acting.

Posted by: Robert at June 25, 2011 11:11 PM

I can't wait not to watch that.

Posted by: googergieger at June 25, 2011 11:12 PM

Why'd you have to post this now, with so many days to go? Maybe to wash the foul taste of the Footloose trailer out of our mouths. Only 362 days until it comes out!

Soooo How to Train your Dragon with a foxy chick? Count me in!

If David Tennant isn't in this, there will be a whole load of disappointed fangirls.

YES.

Fucking movie theater I was at didn't show us the Monty. Basterds.

Posted by: idiosynchronic at June 26, 2011 8:39 AM

I'd like to see Pixar do a movie for adults. Not that what they usually make is only for kids, but I'd like to see something targeted specifically at adults, just to see what they do with it.

Awesome! And I have to say I'm glad Pixar finally got around to writing a story around a female protagonist. Don't get me wrong, I've loved everything they've done (Cars doesn't exist), and they've had very strong females in their movies, but I wanted something with a girl leading the way. And a redhead, too. Just awesome.

WANT.

Posted by: Meander at June 26, 2011 1:21 PM

How in the hell did Gerard Butler miss being cast in this one?

Posted by: DeistBrawler at June 26, 2011 2:12 PM

Oh, and they should have gotten Sean Connery too.

Posted by: DeistBrawler at June 26, 2011 2:13 PM

My daughter tells me this reminds her of the plot to The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley. She said even the horse looks the same. She also tells me that book rocks, so there's good news.

Posted by: Young_Grandma_Ben at June 26, 2011 3:44 PM

Sean Connery!? He's not going to be in a damn Pixar movie! He's F*cking James Bond!!

Posted by: Mrcreosote at June 26, 2011 4:11 PM

Sorry. I just imagine Mr. Connery using that line for EVERYTHING. "Do I want room for milk in my venti iced coffee? What do you think? I'm F*cking James Bond! Do I want to fill out a survey for 20% off my next purchase? I'm f*cking James Bond! How much you I pay now? What do you think I'd pay? I'm f*cking James Bond!"

Posted by: Mrcreosote at June 26, 2011 4:14 PM

Gerard Butler somehow managed to have the LEAST convincing Scottish accent in How to Train Your Dragon.

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at June 26, 2011 4:43 PM

Aaaand..it's gone.

Posted by: NateS1973 at June 26, 2011 6:04 PM

Yes, lets name every Scottish actor alive as possible casting - because we all know that having a huge name cast for every single role wouldn't backfire and make the film no better than something from Dreamworks.

Remember, folks, that while Pixar may have a few bigger names in their casts, the only people who can usually recognise half the cast are film nerds and Abeds.

I saw Cars 2 today...

My friend and I got excited for the Brave teaser and the Winnie the Pooh trailer. In fact the first thing we talked about when we left the theater was the Brave teaser. So yeah can't wait.
