Take Me Now. In Front of All These People!

Can someone explain to me my odd fondness for Amy Smart? I mean, besides her whoopty-fucks in the Crank films? I’ve dug on Ms. Smart since her arc on “Felicity,” and she was great — though terribly miscast — in the short-lived “Smith.” I think she has a certain comfort factor, like Michael J. Fox or Alyson Hannigan or Sarah Chalke. She’s just likable, damnit. With or without clothes. And yet she’s usually relegated to second and third tier romantic comedy roles (Just Friends, Win a Date with Tad Hamilton).

Now, she’s headlining a couple of really bottom-dwelling flicks. Last week, we presented the trailer for the really spectacularly awful, but must-see-it anyway adult dance flick, Love N’ Dancing, alongside Billy freaking Zane. And now we have a trailer for another film that, like Love N’ Dancing, has been on the shelf for a bit (probably waiting for Crank 2 to elevate her status): Seventh Moon. It’s a horror movie that looks … I dunno. Not so good. The only item of note about the movie is that it’s directed by Eduardo Sanchez, who directed the original Blair Witch Project, and then kind of disappeared after Lions Gate ran the franchise into the dirt (anyone see Blair Witch 2)?

Here’s the trailer for Seventh Moon. It’s redband, though I don’t really know why.

First?

Amy Smart is cool because she has the perfect balance of attainability and "cool to hang out with" factor. And her nude scene in Road Trip was a pleasant surprise that let you know you hadn't made a mistake renting/buying/watching the film. She was the anti-Tom Green.

I think that may have been the worst trailer I've ever seen. I'm not saying the movie's gonna blow, but that trailer sucked manatee schlong...

I should think 'from the director of the blair witch project' should be enough to tell any audience member that there is zero possibility of this being scary, at all.
Amy Smart....I ...think I like her? I can never really remember who she is until I see her face

Smart is just hot. I can't imagine not falling in love with her after Outside Providence.

And let's be real; almost any actor you see often in movies is there because people like them for some reason, not because of their ability. Acting chops is not the reason that people go to movies any more than musical ability is why we listen to the bands we like, otherwise everyone would listen to prog rock and flamenco guitar.

Her character in Outside Providence sort of sums her up for me. She seems very cool and laid back, and she is a close second on a off-the-top-of-my-head list of Attainably Hot Actresses. I am not including ladies like Allyson Hannigan or Sarah Chalke because I only find them to be cute. Big difference.
1. Tina Fey
2. Amy Smart
3. Carla Gugino
4. Yvonne Strahovsky (I just butchered her name, didn't I?)
5. Elizabeth Banks

She was TCW in a short lived Scrubs guest starring arc. That's worth something.

What, Nadine? You didn't think Blair Witch was scary? That movie creeped the fucking bajeebers out of me, so bad. I couldn't go camping for months!

Posted by: Snath at April 22, 2009 12:55 PM

Blair Witch wasn't scary. I laughed at it. I usually hate horror movies. I don't watch most of them because they will give me nightmares.

Again with the hyperediting. I need either more aspirin or more whiskey, and since I have to go to work in an hour, the whiskey wins.

This movie looks guaranteed to cause motion sickness. Choppy editing and shaky cameras do not a good movie make.

But Blair Witch scared me too, Snath--mainly because so little was actually shown, allowing my warped imagination to fill in the blanks. Even now when I walk through my woods I keep an eye out for rock piles and twig sculptures hanging from the trees.

And "Just Friends" was not a second rate Rom-Com.
very funny to me.

I am always confused by these "the dead peeps come back and kill us all" genre. I get the feeling that if I was dead, and I had to walk on Earth again, I would be all "WTF, I was sleeping, why did you wake me up, I am going to take a nap now. Motherfuckers."

Also, who is the guy that is doing the trailer voices now? Didn't the old one die?

*these = this. Gah, grammar.

saw this at fantastic fest - and the trailer doesn't even begin to do justice to the craptastic pile of donkey dung that is this film...

In addition to the girl-next-door hotness that might be attainable, I and a friend of mine both have the opinion that Ms. Smart doesn't appear to rely on much makeup at all in a lot of her roles, she appears to be the type that looks just as good the morning after as she did the night before.

Holy run-on sentence Batman.

Kballs, you must have some hidden talents to put Strahotski as #4 on your Attainable Hot Actresses list.

She only appears attainable because the TV is fooling you into thinking she'd date a guy at a BuyMore. And that just ain't reality.

But if you believe she would, I guess that means she's done a good job actressin'.

Smart was in Win a Date with Tad Hamilton? Ya sure that wasn't Kate Bosworth of the mismatched eyes? I've never really followed Smart but she seems to pop up in a surprising number of flicks I enjoy despite the fact that the reason I like 'em generally has little to do with her. She's inoffensive- but the sex appeal eludes me, especially once you've seen her as a crackwhore in Butterfly Effect.

Seriously. I find Amy Smart way more likable than many of the actresses a step above her in popularity. Same goes for Jaime King. Though maybe they'd be less intriguing if I saw more of them.

Also? Now I'm totally going to rewatch "Just Friends" tonight.

Amy Smart is BARELY in "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton". She plays a nurse in a movie that they watch.
