Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal in the same movie reminds me of a dream I had the other night, and every night of the past decade. R-Squared and Blue Eyes in the same movie! That’s crazy. Donnie Darko and Van Wilder are co-leads in a space film where they discover life, only it seems like life is not that interested in being discovered. Basically, Life is a space film that doubles as a horror film.

But man: The fact that Reynolds and Gyllenhaal don’t make out here is just wasted opportunity. Two good-looking men, a close confined space 225 million miles away from home, and the prospect of almost certain death? That’s a kiss-him-with-tongue moment if I ever saw one, and everyone involved here just blows it.

It’s a real disappointment. However, I do look forward to the fan fiction this movie inspires, and by that, I mean: I look forward to writing it.

Life opens in May 2017.
