The teaser trailer for Alexandre Aja’s Piranha 3D is out. I’m not sure what’s going on here: It looks like it’s being designed to appeal to the horror-comedy crowd with the casting of Shue, Christopher Lloyd, Richard Dreyfus, and even Eli Roth. And it looks like it could be amusing. But then again, it’s Alexandre Aja, the nihilistic fucker behind Haute tension and The Hills Have Eyes. He’s not the kind of guy you’d imagine has much of a sense of humor. But the teaser trailer suggests otherwise.

I’m cautiously optimistic.

Snore. It seems I've been seeing this trailer for years. Frankly, I'm piranha-ed out after MegaPiranha: Kick a fish in the head.

Saw a really early preview screening of this. It's 100% a horror comedy. Elisabeth Shue and Jerry O'Connell are the only two people on screen that could be classifed as acting in the film. Everyone else is pretty (or ugly, or scary, or crazy, or stretch-marked-and-cellulited) window dressing for really crappy 3-D effects. The film is overall a flaming piece of shit, but it will gain fans for the gratuitous violence and titty bouncing. If they pull of the 3-D effects, it could swing back to so bad it's good.

On the plus side, the trailer shows a whole bunch of reshoots they had to have done after that first test screening. Like, plot adding reshoots and fix some crappy action sequences reshoots.

I just hope they didn't get rid of the motorboating sequence. It's the best part.
