One For The Money Trailer: No Rainbows Were Harmed In The Making Of This Picture

I’d love to tear this trailer to pieces. It’s for the film One For The Money, based on the novel of the same name by Janet Evanovich. It’s the first novel in her series about lingerie saleswoman turned bounty hunter Stephanie Plum (yes, seriously), and it stars the woman that most of Pajiba loves to hate, Katherine Heigl.

Except that here’s the thing: when I first heard of this project, I picked up the novel because a) I was curious and b) I’m a hopeless crime fiction addict and Evanovich was one of the few writers I hadn’t read. The book is fine. It’s light, breezy, entertaining, goofy and not particularly dense or complicated. It’s got moments of cleverness, but it’s hardly Daschell Hammett reborn. But that said, it’s fun.

Here’s the trailer:

And much as it pains me to admit it, this trailer pretty much nails the tone of the novel. Like, really nails it. Even the “granny firing a gun at the dinner table” gag is right from the book. I can’t speak for whether or not it’ll actually be good — it’s directed by Julie Anne Robinson, who’s directed several episodes of Grey’s Anatomy as well as The Last Song, so that doesn’t exactly bode well — but it feels like it’s close to the mark. It’s hardly going to be an eternally memorable experience, but it’s got the potential to be entertaining. Most importantly, it’s a movie starring Katherine Heigl that doesn’t make me want to burn down a small village.

So that’s something, right?

The books are total junk food but really fun. I was a little crushed when I heard KH was going to be Stephanie...but, maybe, I could give this a chance.

Katherine is doing this just too spite the planet.

TK, are you alright? Are you sure you don't feel like burning something? Perhaps just a hamlet?
I'm a bit worried - I don't think you even swore at us.

Did you just express hope for a Heigl movie?

Surrender one man card, please.

I'm sad that KH is so terribly annoying and unlikeable, because she's one of the few women in Hollywood who looks like she could realistically be an action hero. I'm not one to criticize actresses for being too thin -- I can't imagine what kinds of pressure they get on that front from producers, directors, agents, and the tabloid world at large -- but present-day Angelina Jolie and Zoe Saldana just aren't realistic when physically fighting with people twice their size. Say what you will about KH, she doesn't look like her arm would break off if she hit someone.

it’s a movie starring Katherine Heigl that doesn’t make me want to burn down a small village.

The only way that's possible is if all of the small villages in the world were burnt down already, thanks to the double shot of Killers and The Ugly Truth.

Which they are. (Let's just say it was a bad weekend...)

That doesn't look horrid. Maybe I'll take my mom. She loves the books and has no problem covering the cost of movie tickets and popcorn.

That looks like a really good trailer for a really bad movie. Honestly, the team that created that trailer should probably win some kind of award.

Um, there's just no way.

Okay, I thought the same thing... the trailer isn't half bad. I mean there are no Oscars in the future, for the movie or the actress... but Julia Roberts got one, so maybe...?

These books are a guilty pleasure of mine, well at least the first ten were, then I think ole Janet ran out of ideas. They're fluff and fun and sometimes you just need to read something like that. Anyway, I was appalled to learn of KH nabbing the Plum role but after seeing the trailer and the dye job and the not so super horrible accent, she might be able to pull it off. KH's almost unrecognizable and that's good!

They nailed the casting of Joe too and Lulu looks to be ok. The real crime here is the casting of Ranger...for anyone that's read the books, Franco from Rescue Me, while likeable, is NO Ranger. A slimmed down Rock would have been the answer since there's no getting a time machine and nabbing a cocky 1989 Steven Seagal.

Awwwwww, Jason O'Mara I love you so much! No one can take Berkeley Square away from you, ever.

Baby steps, TK.

Wow. I loved the first few Stephanie Plum novels and HATED it when I heard KH was cast for the role. But this trailer looks pretty good. Now I'm conflicted. I think I just need to get over the fact that my dream version of Stephanie Plum, Sandra Bullock, is just too old for the role. And I really can't think of anyone else who would be suitable for it.

GODDAMNIT I AM NOT ALLOWED TO LIKE THIS MOVIE!!

Argh. It did look ok. Maybe.

I agree with beautifulgirl & Kimberly, did NOT want KH for this -- I was rooting for Leah Remini, thought she'd be perfect.

The trailer doesn't look bad, better than I expected too, but also doesn't remind me very much of the book. Grandma looks WAY too young, and Morelli's a cop, FFS! Also agree that Ranger is way less accessible than that guy.

So either it's been too long since I read the first book, or will have to just let go and let the movie be its own thing. Doing that a lot these days, it seems.

I read and enjoyed the books for a while - until I realized I was reading the same book over and over. And I don't hate Heigl as much as other folks seem to, so maybe this would be worth watching. I agree that Debbie Reynolds is too young to play Grandma Mazur, but I'm sort of glad she took the role, because that could be the best part of the movie (as it often is in the books).

Also, Ranger is way the fuck hotter than that guy. The Morelli casting is fine, though.
