Now You've Stolen All the Magic: Rhys Ifans, Anna Friel and Bob Hoskins Head to "Neverland"

Those cheeky Brits always have something up their sleeves, don’t they? First they unleash Benedict Cumberbatch as “Sherlock,” leave us waiting forever for the next installment and now we’ll have to resort to hooking and crooking to get hold of this little number. Sky Movies will premiere their two-part Peter Pan prequel, “Neverland” in July, but Godtopus knows when we’ll be able to see it stateside. The made-for-television film is billed as an original story of how the orphaned Pan (Charlie Rowe, Pirate Radio, Never Let Me Go) came to be the Boy Who Never Grew Up. Rhys Ifans stars as the infamous Jimmy Hook, a man who runs a fencing school and “mentors” little Peter and his pickpocketing friends. Transported through a magical portal to Neverland, Peter and company meet up with characters transported from different places and times: Captain Elizabeth Bonny (Friel) and Smee (Bob Hoskins, reprising his Hook role), along with native tree spirit Tinkerbell (voiced by Keira Knightly). Ifans is the standout in this trailer; the film looks like a good bit of fantastical fun that won’t have to try hard to be better than other Pan adaptations:

“Neverland” is directed by Nick Willing (“Alice, Tin Man”) and also stars Charles Dance (“Game of Thrones,” Your Highness), Q’orianka Kilcher (“Sons of Anarchy,” Princess Kaiulani ) and Cas Anvar (Source Code, “Lost”).

I thought I read somewhere that this was going to air on SyFy. Could just be a rumor, though.

Q'Orianka! I haven't seen her in anything since The New World, which she was awesome in, so it's nice to hear of her doing something else.

kayla, I think she was also on "Sons of Anarchy" for a while, but it is nice to see her face.

The whole thing looks like a fluffy bit of fun with a great cast. Sign me up.

When is this going to air?

I'm upset that Charles Dance doesn't get a mention for his Magnum Opus, Last Action Hero.

I've just shot a man, and I DID IT ON PURPOSE!

The problem with this is that Peter Pan already HAS a backstory (Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens) as per his creator, J.M. Barrie. And this is NOT it. It's disrespectful to change & ignore an author's work like this...

There are two books out that give us other Pan tales while being respectful.
First, how about a novel based on Barrie's own notes for more? Click!
Second, a "What if?" story. Although it veers from the original, it never loses sight of Barrie's core themes and essence. Click!

BELIEVE!

My spouse and i were really lucky when Raymond managed to complete his research through the precious recommendations he had through the site. It's not at all simplistic just to happen to be freely giving tactics that people today may have been selling. We recognize we now have you to thank for this. Most of the explanations you have made, the straightforward web site menu, the relationships you will assist to create - it is most exceptional, and it's helping our son and us reckon that the theme is awesome, which is incredibly important. Thank you for all!
