You Asked The Question, Here's The Answer. Let's Get Bloody

Remember when I said I was going to stop posting about “The Walking Dead?”

Fuck you. I lied.

So, here’s the thing. Those who’ve read the graphic novels know that this series is bloody. It’s nasty. It’s not fake guts and off-screen grossness. It’s in your face and sometimes uncomfortably real. The zombies are scary as hell, and sometimes the people are scarier. One of the common questions/concerns of fans has been, given that it’s on AMC — a serious, but not unrestricted network — how much blood and violence would they be able to show.

Here’s a glimpse. It’s a tiny one. But a good one. I’m guessing the blood effects aren’t finalized yet in the clip, but it still gives you a taste. A sweet, coppery taste.

That clip doesn't work. Why do you tease me like this?

It could be just me (it usually is), but I couldn't get the clip to load in either Firefox or Safari.

Drat.

Can't watch video at work, but I do like the way AMC is marketing this series. The ad they had in the finale of Mad Men, showing the rapidly declining population count of the main city in your own media market? That was a clever touch.

If you click on "The Walking Dead Trailer" there at the bottom left, it'll take you to the trailer on Spike.com, and it'll work (assuming you aren't being blocked at work).

Now that I've been able to get the trailer to work (Thanks Rykker), one of my long-standing questions about zombies has been answered: do they or don't they have normal blood pressure. It would appear they have really high blood pressure based on how that blood shot out of his head. Time to start stock-piling statins.

Posted by: PaddyDog at October 21, 2010 11:36 AM

Paddy, how much of that blood is being propelled by the fragments of skull, and the expanding gases following the bullet? The barrel is right up against his forehead, so if the officer is using hollow point bullets, there's going to be some splatter. I'd expect zombie blood to be pretty thick and viscous, and not highly pressured, given that there is no beating heart.

And again, too much thought has gone into this.

Ohmygod. Yes. AMC just became my favorite network.

That was my reaction, too, admin!

I've seen the pilot.

Don't ask how. >_>

But know this... IT. IS. AWESOME.

It really is about fucking time we got a zombie show. Fuck vampires.

Pre-air pilot (low quality but watchable) is "in the wild", and they improved from the comic the horse + Atlanta + tank + The Dead scene immensely, great job AMC!

Posted by: TrickyHD at October 21, 2010 6:17 PM

Also already watched the pilot. And it rocks. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

WANT!!!!

Posted by: MM at October 21, 2010 7:46 PM

I thought it started a bit slow, but about halfway through I found myself starting to dig it, then once the horse + Atlanta + tank scene rolled by, I was hooked.

seriously, knock it the fuck off. -TK

I had a moment there wishing I had tv.

Then, I had another moment where I played admin's comment in slow-mo in my mind. He was bouncing in his chair like those commercials where someone wins the lottery and goes crackers with rolling eyes and manical faces.

It went: 'EEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!' (slow up in the air, reaching a perfect apogee and begin the slow downward arc, then:), *clap-clap-clap* (head twist from side to side like he's channeling a particularly mellow Stevie Wonder, while clapping hands like a 'flaming-gays' Wayans brothers clip).

That was pretty good too.

That was pretty good too.

Posted by: replica at October 21, 2010 10:47 PM

Sounds to me like you don't need a TV, replica. That was really cool.

But yeah, ZZZZZOOOOOMMMMMBIES!!!!!!

Posted by: Uriah Creep at October 21, 2010 11:07 PM

Aye, Aye! Knockin' it the fuck off! :) (such a touchy bunch of bitchy snarks)...

Here in the UK, FX will be showing - and I quote - "The Walking Dead First Episode The Director's Cut" on 5th November. This raises two questions.

1. Does "Director's Cut" mean UK viewers will see a different, bloodier version than USian viewers or is it just your usual misleading, marketing malarkey?

2. If FX can bring us The Walking Dead only 5 days after the US premier why did we have to wait 12 fucking months for season 4 of Dexter?

Posted by: Ballymena Bob at October 22, 2010 8:56 AM

Am totally with you there, Ballymena Bob. "Straight from the States" seems to be the new big tagline - but only for some things. NCIS, yes - bleh. Sons of Anarchy, no - boo.

Am v. pleased this is coming so soon though. So is Mr L, who ranks all things zombie-related (as with all things Alien/Predator-related) very highly.

Posted by: lingli at October 22, 2010 6:27 PM

Dammit, stop giving me zombie boners at work! It's getting embarrassing.
