New Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance Trailer: Gonna Hitch A Ride, Head For The Other Side

Fuck yes I quoted Boston in the header. Because that’s what Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is starting to look like: something incredibly amusing, potentially enjoyable, but not necessarily good, you feel me? Also, I’ve been drinking.

Here’s the new, full trailer for the film, directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the insane geniuses behind the Crank franchise. This one shows much more plot detail, and I’ve been cautiously optimistic about the film — though still very nervous, because the original Ghost Rider was so brutally awful it made me want to kill your family. I’ve actually always been a fan of the comic book character, so seeing Mark Steven Johnson turn him into that whining little candyass was pretty rough.

So Neveldine and Taylor might just be the right kind of crazy for this. The film recently screened at the AICN BNAT festival in Austin, and the reaction was mixed. But I’m still interested — the stunts are supposedly insane, the Ghost Rider effects are far superior, it’s much more intense (apparently it just missed an R rating), and there’s plenty of shit to burn. Plus, Ciaran Hinds, Idris Elba and Johnny Whitworth. Plus, the villain, Blackout (Whitworth) can’t possibly be worse than Wes Bentley’s horrendous emo-Blackheart. These are all good things.

The trailer looks fun. Big, loud, dumb, demon-possessed fun.

This does look like fun! I was just talking about the SoulCaliber (for Dreamcast) series the other day. My favorite character, Ivy, had a sword that acted a lot like the Ghost Rider's chain. It's even more awesome here, because of all the fire.

Still having a hard time seeing the good in this. It might indeed be a bit of lag left over from how brain-numbingly awful the first one was.

Yes you fucking did! You fucking quoted Boston didn't you; you magnificent motherfucker; now I shall have the whole album playing on repeat in my head all day.

Tom Scholz and Brad Delp (RIP) all up in here!

I started laughing when I heard Nic Cage's voice.

By the end, I was hooked on seeing this.

I can't control these feels.

Oddly enough, that header pic made me think of other movies....

Paint his head green and you have The Mask. Put him in a clown costume and you have one of the Penguin's minions from Batman Returns, he even gets to keep the motorcycle. Turn his head to the side and you get the poster from Evil Dead II. Redraw this pic by hand and you get a Tex Avery Cartoon. Give him a hoodie and you have Skeletor.

I guess Cage is more versatile than I gave him credit for.

@Jenne Frisby - Kudos for the SoulCaliber connection. If GR's chain could turn into a sword and back, I'd be more apt to agree. Also, if Nick Cage had huge implants and wore a leather thong bikini...well, then it would be an entirely different kind of movie.

I was always more of a Xianghua guy, myself.

Fun! Skipping it in 3D, tho. If it's not as dumb as the first movie, I'll be very disappointed. But keeping in mind that he pees fire in this one, I don't think I will be.

"...because the original Ghost Rider was so brutally awful it made me want to kill your family."

You want to kill our families when your meatloaf is a little dry.

This is going to sound totally insane, but Nic Cage in that header looks like Joel Mchale in the foozball episode of Community:

It's YOU!
