New "Falling Skies" Trailers: Noah Wyle: Defender Of The Universe

I have this problem with “Falling Skies,” the new Spielberg-produced series coming later this year. It looks like something I should be interested in. Frankly, I’ll just say what we’re all thinking: It looks like “The Walking Dead” with aliens. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but there’s just one… small… problem…

Noah Wyle.

It’s not that he’s a bad actor. He’s fine. Perhaps, as his tenure on “E.R.” showed people, more than fine. But my problem with him is that whenever I see him, from now until the end of time, I can only think of those ridiculous TNT movies starring him as The Librarian. You know, the one where Bob Newhart plays some sort of immortal nerd-master and co-starred people like Kyle MacLachlan and Gabrielle Anwar. Jane Curtin was in them too, and I could smell the shame on her from my living room. Not MacLachlan, though… motherfucker hasn’t known shame since he agreed to Showgirls.

I digress. My point is, Noah Wyle has some sins to atone for before I can take him seriously again. Falling Skies has potential — it’s shooting for that gutty, gritty survivalist vibe that I hope they hit, instead of pulling punches and becoming yet another crappy cable sci-fi show. And I’ve had more than enough of that. Anyway, here’s the newest trailer/clip from the show. Shows more of the creepy, arachnoid aliens, and more desolate America. Take a look-see:

(“Mankind”)

In case you’re curious, here are the other spots:

(“Resist”)

(“Only Hope”)

(“An Epic Battle”)

(“Flashlight”)

In case you’re hankering for more, TNT actually has a multi-part webcomic serving as a prelude, which isn’t too bad. It’s not exactly Frank Miller or Mark Millar, but it’s not terrible.

Gotta say that looks quite interesting.
I just hope it doesn't suck as much cock as The Walking Dead which was easily the biggest tv show disappointment in the last few years. Incredible poor storylines and poor execution truth be told.

Yup, its going to extremely difficult for folks not to see him as The librarian (which I must admit IS a guilty pleasure). I love the guy but c'mon.

I'm going to have a hard time believing Steve Fucking Jobs as a gun-toting survivalist.

I just find him insanely bland.

Please tell me this--

It’s not exactly Frank Miller or Mark Millar, but it’s not terrible.

--is your bottom rung for good comicstry?

I'ma watch this show, fo'sho'. I knew enough to stay away from anything entitled simply The Librarian, so Wyle's only atonement comes from his African excursions on ER, in my opinion. Which, really, isn't that bad and more the writers' fault than his. I do kind of keep me expecting to see Eriq LaSalle or Anthony Edwards in these spots, popping up to tell Wyle that he's saving the world all wrong.

I'll also co-sign supafly's sentiment, if not the crassitude of his commentary.

Looks decent. Also, to supafly, are you clinically retarded? The Walking Dead was great from start to finish and I have to believe that you are either suffering from some kind of brain fever and/or you also think that Jersey Shore is too cerebral.
Does anyone else get a serious Roy Scheider vibe from Noah in the first video?

While I reveled in the cheesiness of the Librarian, Noah Wylie will always be Carter to me. And that's more than enough to get me to watch this.
