New Dark Knight Rises Trailer Will Damage Your Liver, Puncture Your Lungs

If you didn’t get an opportunity over the weekend to catch the Dark Knight Rises trailer, which was attached to both Sherlock Holmes and Mission Impossible — Ghost of Protocol, it has arrived. If you’re planning to see the above movies, especially Mission Impossible, I’d wait and watch this for the first time in IMAX. It is goddamn splendid, and actually my favorite part of the trailer is Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman and the 1 percent plotline she seems to be developing (timely!).

I won’t say anymore, and let you do all the gawking. You can check out this embed below (courtesy of FilmStage) or, better yet, check out the HD trailer on Apple.

Nolan! Nolan! Chris Chris Nolan! Nolan! Chris Chris!

My only question is why is Hines Ward punt returning a ball? He's way too old to do that for the Steelers. For a series of films that tries to achieve some realism, I scoff at that.

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD. Caps lock intended as I am LITERALLY SHOUTING OUT LOUD OH MY GAAAAAAAAAAAAAWDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD.
So much just so much must rewatch until I go BLIIIIIIIIIIIIIND.

Nolan, you miserable bastard. The next 6 months will now be interminable.

Jesus Christ.

The Dark Knight Rises; Because your blood pressure wasn't high enough already this holiday week.

Posted by: Pants at December 19, 2011 2:00 PM

This trailer was the best part of Sherlock Holmes, aside from RDJ's body and that gypsy dance scene.

Posted by: kilmo at December 19, 2011 2:04 PM

"... how you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us." It's a great line and ties in with reports of Nolan filming near the Occupy Wall Street camp. But is it sincere or just pandering? Are they being that subversive and siding with the villains overthrowing Batman who represents an antiquated society? Or are they just, you know, tapping into current issues?

Otherwise, that looks awesome.

The new trailer doesn't seem to be up on Apple's website.

Ohsweetholyjesus.

Posted by: figgy at December 19, 2011 2:34 PM

@Debasers I think Hathaway's line about the 1% will definitely tie in with the plot, as it will show the fact that Wayne's rich boy facade is becoming a prison. Her venomous opinion of him is - essentially - who he has forced himself to become. Bale said in an interview that this movie really shows how the two identities cannot go on and have real impacts on him. Also, I've thought about this way too much.

This film is going to make more money than anything ever.

I am a little worried about the CGI in the trailer, however. Anyone share this thought of mine? I mean, in The Dark Knight there was almost none of it at all.

Perhaps Nolan is above CGI corruption, and it won't do to him what it did to Lucas and Peter Jackson.

Okay, okay. I am totally in. Even though Anne Hathaway annoys me, that looks... fantastic...

God dammit googergeiger, it's just a....oh, sorry, carry on.

Posted by: pissant at December 19, 2011 3:16 PM

Was that someone called Ravenstahr kicking off?

The Ravens/Steelers rivalry is dramatic enough without Batman.
But I'll take it.

I think I just came.

Posted by: junierizzle at December 19, 2011 3:17 PM

I'm so ready for this!

Posted by: Fredo at December 19, 2011 3:22 PM

Can't see the trailer, but I'd bet it's Ravenstahl kicking the ball. Luke Ravenstahl is the mayor of Pittsburgh.

Regarding Hines: I'd be more concerned that they apparently traded him to Gotham. THE MAN CAN STILL (sort of) PLAY!

Nolan, I believe, is openly hostile to CGI, so I'd trust that there won't be any more in this than is absolutely necessary. He's all about live effects.

Orgasmm!

Posted by: caro at December 19, 2011 4:07 PM

Anne Hathaway, in a surprise move, did not annoy me in the trailer. But do you ever wonder how amazing Rachel Weisz would have been as Catwoman? She is so good at supplying that perfect level of bitch.

SO. I know a few people who went to see MI:4 and therefore saw the Dark Knight Rises sneak peak. The one circulating complaint is that you can't understand a damn word Bane says. Uh, yeeeeah. Gonna have to agree with that one.

Posted by: citizen_cris at December 19, 2011 4:17 PM

Anne Hathaway looked rather kitty like. Not too bad.
But just a flash of JGL?

Posted by: daria at December 19, 2011 5:01 PM

I AM SO FUCKING

underwhelmed.

Posted by: clancys_daddy at December 19, 2011 5:06 PM

Bane: "When Gotham is ashes, you'll have my permission to die."

At least that's what I got out of it through the marbles in his mouth.

Posted by: jollies at December 19, 2011 5:14 PM

Catwoman (Hathaway) is wearing the same necklace Bruce's mother was wearing in the first movie

Posted by: John Blake at December 19, 2011 5:17 PM

I haven't seen the prologue but I totally understood what Bane said in the trailer. Anyway Im sure its all ADR and Im also sure they are hearing the complaints. Theyve got time to fix it.

Posted by: junierizzle at December 19, 2011 5:58 PM

Holly fucking shit I drooled all over myself watching this! The only thing I hate about this movie is that it's supposed to be the last, if I repeat often that Christian Bale will be back again playing Batman it will happen, yes it will!

Posted by: Nancy at December 19, 2011 7:28 PM

I'm happy with the idea of this ending. With that said, I before E motherfuckers. I before E!

Posted by: googergieger at December 19, 2011 8:44 PM

I just sat through lame-ass Mission Impossible to see the scene. It was good. It looked gorgeous. The only problem is you can't understand anything at all that Bane says. I was in an IMAX theater with really crisp sound too. It even sounded like they already ADR'd the other actors who sounded like they each had their own audio channel, while Bane sounded like he had swallowed the mic.

Posted by: John G. at December 19, 2011 9:06 PM

I just realized, watching this trailer, how much Batman, at least in the Nolan-verse, is concerned with returning Gotham to the status quo, not necessarily righting any socio-economic wrongs. He may stand up to crime, but, in the end, he would defend rich peoples' rights to create and profit from sweatshops, as long as it wasn't contra the law.
Hell, Tony Stark is more progressive.

Posted by: Liz at December 19, 2011 10:36 PM

Yeah .... whatever. Hey, has anyone seen the Muppets movie yet??

Posted by: handy_man at December 19, 2011 11:14 PM

If Nolan is going to deconstruct societal standards and let Batman come to the conclusion that he´s fighting for the wrong side by siding with cops and the elite, this is going to be fucking epic.

If he is going to discredit forces of societal change by equating them with criminals, I´m going to be disappointed.

Posted by: Qualtinger at December 20, 2011 5:39 AM

Anne Hathaway looks fucking unhinged. It's like she's mentally growing her claws.

Posted by: kiz at December 20, 2011 7:48 AM

Wait, I thought Bane was supposed to be the VILLAIN, but here he is blowing up Heinz Field and nearly murdering Hines Ward. I know who I'm rooting for.

Posted by: Jim at December 21, 2011 2:51 AM

Looks great! My only concern: does Anne Hathaway's Catwoman look unnaturally classy to anybody else? I'm all for new directions, but I want the leather catsuit damnit!!!
