If You Wanna Find Hell With Me, I Can Show You What It's Like

Folks may not remember this, but there was a time when Rebecca De Mornay was on her way to stardom. That star hit a ceiling pretty quickly and fell pretty fast, but she still pops up here and there. Personally, I’ll always remember her as the psychotic seductress nanny from The Hand That Rocks The Cradle.

Anyway, here she is in the remake of the 1980 horror film Mother’s Day, and I have to say, despite its torture porn leanings, I’m liking what I see of her performance. It’s less ridiculous and goofily deranged as the original — which featured the sons as sort of rapacious, moronic hillbillies and the mother as a wacky old bloodthirsty coot. This one plays much more seriously, with De Mornay as an almost serene mother who is — behind her calm eyes — bugfuck crazy.

Check it out (this isn’t actually an official trailer, but a sales promo that Bloody Disgusting tracked down):

It doesn’t look good, per se… it’s got a bit too much of the Last House On The Left remake feel to it. But De Mornay certainly looks like she might be worth watching in it.

For ha ha’s, here’s the trailer for the original, which is unfortunately a lot more rape-y:

Rebecca DeMornay...what male child of the 80s didn't have fantasies about her and a subway ride?

Danzig is going to be stuck in my head all day now and that's not a bad thing.

I remember seeing the original Mother's Day as part of a little Saturday night 80's gorefest with some friends when I was in 8th grade. We watched that and April Fool's Day. I don't remember much about April Fool's Day other than it had Billy Zabka's g/f from Just One of the Guys in it. However, I remember Mother's Day specifically for the scene where the chick pours Drano down the one dude's throat (the one in the leather pilot's helmet) and the gurgling pinkish, foamy ooze that they showed coming from his throat for about 15 seconds. Still a great scene every time I remember it. Also the first time I can remember a villain getting a TV smashed on his head while plugged in.

The remake looks like someone was mad they didn't get to do the US version of Funny Games.

For a second I thought, "Wait, Anthony Fucking Hopkins is in this and you didn't mention it? Sold anyway!"

Alas, turns out it was a different movie.

How about a movie where one of the people Bugfuck Crazy takes revenge on turns out to be Bugfuck Crazy too?

Rebecca DeMornay. Murr.

Man, the 1980s trailer is... rapey.

Rebecca DeMornay does a pretty good crazy, I'll give her that.

Am I the only one who thinks she looks kinda hot crazy?

And I'm SURE I'm the only one thinking about Ma Beagle and the Beagle Boys.

Although, sadly, the two aren't related.

Rape-y doesn't even begin to describe it. It just looks like a montage of full-on rape scenes with Bea Arthur's corpse supervising. Yikes.

Loved Rebecca De Mornay in The Hand That Rocks The Cradle, but I have zero intention of seeing this. And refuse to watch the clip described as "rapey". Don't need that imagery floating in my head all day.

Did want to give props to TK for the Danzig reference though.
