Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol Trailer: Now Clear, In English, And With More Awesome

Why am I excited for this movie? Because I like the first one and love the third one. Because Tom Cruise, despite being a fucking trainwreck of a person and quite possibly an alien from another dimension bent on subjugating our species and devouring our brains, is a great action star. Because I’m excited to see what Brad Bird can do with a live-action cast. Because Tom fucking Wilkerson is in it. Because Jeremy fucking Renner is in it.

Because Simon Pegg looks like he’s gonna fuck someone up, and that’s something you’re just not gonna see very often. And Paula Patton, and God knows the world needs more Paula Patton.

I’m just saying, there are some good reasons to be excited. Not the least of which is the utterly ridiculous looking stunt that takes place on the Burj Khalifa building in the United Arab Emirates.

So yeah. There’s some cool going on here, and now we have it in English, and not blurry as my Sunday mornings.

Check it:

To be fair with Simon Pegg....

If I were to sell any credibility I had left after Star Trek by starring in a movie with Tom Cruise that's sole purpose is to make a franchise relive it's rape for about two hours, I'd probably be able to crank out a decent performance as a guy ready to "fuck someone up".

Saw it twice. Think Brad Bird's got it nailed but good.

Fingers crossed we're all right.

Sexy. But by Godtopus, the edits in that made me feel like I should be epileptic - my eyes and brain hurt now...

Posted by: trib at June 29, 2011 12:47 AM

Paula Patton. MMmmmyes.

Posted by: Brittany at June 29, 2011 3:56 AM

Yeah yeah Renner Schmenner... *but* is Limp Bizkit going to score it?

Posted by: James at June 29, 2011 4:11 AM

Great trailer. I thought Mission Impossible 3 was awesome,So I'm actually looking forward to this one.

ARE you people OUT OF YOUR FUCKING. MINDS? Did you not see how they have basically recycled scenes from all the previous films? I even got a "red-light green light" reference there. So he escapes from a meeting and then he jumps off a building aaaand they are doing the hanging from a vent thing AGAIN. I fucking bet you there's a motorcycle chase featuring Ducatis, because we all know the midget looooooves Ducatis and he looks so manly when he straddles them.

Am I the only one seeing this?

I see it. I'm just fine with it.

Like TK said, Cruise does this sort of thing very well. I thought that stuff was awesome the first time around and I'm pretty cool with them doing it again this year, as long as it doesn't suck.

Oh, yeah, and "Blew up the Kremlin" is a mighty audacious hook.

Posted by: Meander at June 29, 2011 7:19 AM

I am an absolute sucker for well-made movie trailers. Particularly when a good song is used and the scenes are edited to the beat of the music. And this trailer has it all: great actors, great music, and lots of fun. I hate to contribute a penny to Scientology, but I’ll probably be seeing this movie. In the theater. (A rare occurrence for me.)

When Wilkerson said "the entire IMF has been disbanded" I thought, "wow, they had time to work in that whole Strauss-Levy thing". Silly me.

Posted by: PaddyDog at June 29, 2011 9:11 AM

Oh, and they are getting "disavowed," again are this folks ever NOT in trouble with HR?

Here's an idea: kill them all, and outsource their whole agency to the Chinese.

You know, I may be in the possibly insane minority here, but I really do like Tom Cruise as an action hero, which is part of why I think this fourth film has really good potential. Cruise is very believable, he has that seething thing going, and he's athletic, and I think he plays Hunt very well.

Posted by: sars at June 29, 2011 9:49 AM

who doesn't like a good action film? pardon me. i meant to say good action movie. a good movie is a good movie after all.

as for this....i think i remember seeing the first one in the series but i certainly didn't see the second or third. i'm sure it doesn't really matter and i can dip right in and enjoy this one. but the question remains: do i want to?

i know tom cruise is a fuckwit and possible alien as someone said above but i have always found him to be so pretty. if only he wouldn't deny his inner gay. but i digress.

the trailer was kind of generic as far as action movies go so i'm not sure where all the love for it is coming from. epileptic seizures indeed.

i suppose i'll wait to see what you guys say and then probably pass on it. probably.

I semi-shamelessly have loved all 3.

As for Simon Pegg, ever since our meeting over Hot Fuzz those years ago... He's easily top 3 for "Celebrity in my LadyCupboard" list. You know, that freebie celeb bonk that you and your s.o. agree on. 40 years from now I would sneak into the old folks home and step on his oxygen hose so he couldn't shout loudly while I felt him up.

Tom Cruise is running fast! Again! I wonder if he's run a full marathon in his movies by now?

Posted by: Zayaz at June 29, 2011 10:34 AM

Will not see.

Posted by: logan at June 29, 2011 11:32 AM

Tom Cruise runs funny.
Also oof, TESTOSTERONE!!!!

Posted by: Dora at June 29, 2011 11:42 AM

Yeah, I love this shit despite all the logical reasons not to. I predict Renner is Cruise's long lost brother.

Posted by: Cindy at June 29, 2011 11:46 AM

It's Tom *Wilkinson*

And I want this whole trailer.

Posted by: Parker at June 29, 2011 11:54 AM

Scientology-boy is a disaster whichever way you look at it.

Posted by: ZeroZero at June 29, 2011 12:28 PM

Because Simon Pegg looks like he’s gonna fuck someone up, and that’s something you’re just not gonna see very often.

i'm actually gonna see it just to see Simon Pegg lose his shit. dats gonna be all kinds of ossom.

And Tom Cruise is looking fine as ever. You ppl can make fun of his height, sexual orientation, Knight n Day and his Xenu affiliation all you want.

the man knows how to rock ppl's socks off when it comes to action and dats all dat matters.

I saw a load of cliched bollocks with a laughably bad soundtrack(apart from the MI theme tune at the end which still sounds pretty cool).

I'll wait until it's on the telly.

No Sawyer love?
What is wrong with you people?
For shame...

Posted by: Kateshi Rinkichiku at June 29, 2011 3:14 PM

No Sawyer love?

was wondering who dat was. thx. will show love when the camera stays on him longer than 2 sec.

Posted by: haplo at June 29, 2011 3:24 PM

F yeah!
*shivers*

Posted by: Trey Shacksit at June 29, 2011 3:40 PM

haplo, I know what you mean. First time I almost squeaked "Olyphant!" when I saw him. I felt slightly disappointed when it wasn't Sheriff Bullock. But then I realized it was Sawyer and felt slightly better ^_^

Posted by: Kateshi Rinkichiku at June 29, 2011 4:13 PM

I'll be seeing it and avoiding the full trailer as well. This was enough to get me to the theater. Cruise, Renner, and Pegg alone are enough to put me in the seat. Directed by Brad Bird? I can't frigging wait at this point.

Posted by: TylerDFC at June 29, 2011 6:49 PM

i want renner's babies.

Posted by: gp at June 29, 2011 7:28 PM

Is it so wrong to want a realistic action film? Yeah? It is? Fuck.

No one is THAT lucky. He'd have died about 5 times in that trailer alone.

Posted by: DeistBrawler at June 29, 2011 10:49 PM

Brad Bird is directing this. He directed, arguably, the two best Pixar movies and the Iron Giant. There's a chance it can actually be good! It's the only reason I'm looking forward to it. Plus, it would be interesting seeing a established animation director try something else.
