These Random Killings Don't Make Sense!

This One's For Deborah Kara Unger Fans. All One of You / Dustin Rowles

Trailers | September 21, 2009 | Comments (13)

I know that a lot of you are probably HUGE Deborah Kara Unger fans, ever since Highlander III: The Sorceror, and as a result, you’ve been trudging your way through her filmography for years (it’s not that bad, actually — and then you hit 88 Minutes). She’s been the poor woman’s Maria Bellow for a while, but her age has apparently caught up to her, which means that Hollywood has seen fit to throw her into the D-movie slush pile. The latest is Messages Deleted, alongside Matthew Lillard, who is one bad movie away from a VH1 reality show.

This one is particularly rank, however, because it comes from screenwriter Larry Cohen — and this one completes his abominable phone trilogy; Cohen is also responsible for both Cellular and Phone Booth (if you can believe it, they actually advertise the association on the movie poster). Cohen, of course, is also the screenwriter for Captivity, a movie I vaguely recall disliking (underline, italics is the official sarcasm style of Pajiba).Indeed, Cohen is basically the worst screenwriter of all time with ten or more credits (the It’s Alive trilogy, notwithstanding).

Anyway, check out the trailer for Messages Deleted and then, as soon as possible, delete it from your memory.

I must be "the one." Well...I guess you can't consider me a fan. I don't watch her movies. Thanks to Highlander III: The Sorceror she was in my teenage masturbation folder however. Along with Ellen Barkin in Sea of Love, Sharon stone in both Total Recall and Sliver, and that one chick getting fucked on the table in Die Hard.

My standards were fairly low then.

Um, hello? I'm a Deborah Kara Unger fan. Why? Because I watched a movie recommended to me by... (wait for it)... Pajiba. Called Stander. She was in it. She was lovely. She did a great South African accent.

That doesn't mean that this movie isn't shite, of course.

Remember when Matthew Lillard was awesome?

Man, 1997 . . . those were the days.

"From the writer of Phone Booth and Cellular"? How is that a good thing at all?
Are they actively trying to dissuade people from seeing this?

Also, the high point of Matthew Lillard's career was being cast in Hackers. That's not sarcasm.

How can we take phone-horror seriously after Forgetting Sarah Marshall?

I stopped watching after "The killer is copying my script".

Crash. Cronenburg. She was in the good Crash (I think that's what I'm saying here). Worst possible sibling viewing selection, however. But she's lovely...I'm not sure why, but I recall a whole series of conversations on set (at the time I was doing stand-in work) about how luminous and talented and everything she was and how it was a damn shame she was overlooked in casting. That is all I recall.

I was just thinking about Matthew Lillard the other day and wondering where the heck he went. It looked like he was poised for big things back in the Scream days and then...and then SFW, I guess.

Jesus...the ending of "SLC Punk" gets more poignant and depressing the longer Matthew Lillard appears in utter shit...
