Megamind Trailer: I Will Crush You With My Custom Baby-Seal Boots

Not bad. Not bad at all. Here’s the trailer for Megamind, Dreamworks’s animated supervillain movie about a supervillian who has to cope with life after having vanquished his arch-nemesis. And while the fact that it’s an animated film suggests a young audience, the voice cast and the tone of the trailer suggests that there’s a lot in it for adults, too. Brad Pitt as the goody-goody superhero? Will Ferrell as the sarcastic, bumbling villain?Tina Fey as the wry, put-upon Tina Fey-esque damsel in not so much distress? And there’s also Jonah Hill.

Megamind is due out in the fall.

Aw, I can't resist a good villain flick... I've got Dr. Horrible committed to memory. I'll probably have to see this.

I detest Will Ferrell, but this looks like it might be fun.

Ok, that looked like fun, but are the animators just doing the "Dreamworks Face," just to spite people? Because every time I see that smug little look I wanna bust something.

Oh, the poor baby vanquishes his foe and doesn't know what to do next? Pooooooor widdle thingSUCK IT! YOU SHOULD SUCK! IT! Do you have any idea how long I've been trying to kill Hal Jordan? DO YOU? Forever; that's how long! Since the '60s! Which is like, very close to being forever! So SUCK IT!

...(sigh) fucking Hollywoodland (it's still called that, yeah?)

Fringed gauntlets? How terribly gauche.

Blaupunkt quandrant? LOL!!!!

How's that for a voice cast? Well, they're actors. Not voice talents. So they will probably be playing themselves since they were hired for their recognizable names. When Brad Pitt does Ian McKellen doing the Fresh Prince, call me. If that doesn't make sense, go check out last night's post "This is why YouTube was invented". THAT dude is a voice talent.

Hee, this looks cute. Might be a problem that it's so obviously Will Ferrell, but it looks alright.

If Will Ferrell channels Mugatu's evil villainy, I'm all in.

Arachnis Deathicus
Ha!

And ditto, The Kilted Yaksman I have never liked Will Ferrell, but this looks like it might suit him.

Exactly. Billy West thanks you Anne.

I've loved everything Pixar's done, and have been fairly "meh" at most Dreamworks' animated releases..."Monsters vs. Aliens" excepted.

But this? Yeah, I'm so there. Yep.

Billy West would indeed been far superior as the lead. H. Jon Benjamin as well, now that we're making a list. Still, this reminds me of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, the funniest movie of 2009.

I love Dreamworks. Love, love, love, love, love, love, loooooove, l-o-v-e Dreamworks. Very much. Of course I'll see it. I'd see it even if the trailer weren't so nifty. Bring on November!!

I'm a sucker for animated movies laced with some adult humor. Also, am I the only one who imagined that trailer with Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion instead of Will Ferrell and Brad Pitt? Perhaps I've watched Dr. Horrible one too many times...

Posted by: Even Stevens at May 22, 2010 1:39 AM

Yeah, that's why I'm not really pumped for this one. It just looks like Dr. Horrible is getting the Hollywood treatment - bigger names, bigger budgets, dumber jokes, and less interesting characters. And I'm generally a fan of the superhero genre/parody.

Why couldn't they get Bruce Campbell for the voice of Metroman? They've clearly based the character's look on him.

Huh, this is the third movie released by Dreamworks Animation this year. I wonder if they're worried about over-saturation of the market and I wonder if they have anything for next year?
