Liam Neeson Does the Reverse Bourne

Unknown is like a reverse-Bourne: A man (Liam Neeson) has a terrible car accident, and when he wakes up, everyone else seems to have amnesia. Kind of a cool, if not completely transparent, concept, and the trailer pretty much gives away all the intrigue, leaving you only with the hopeful prospect of Liam Neeson kicking a little ass. It comes from Jaume Collet-Serra, the director of the execrable 2005 House of Wax remake (ugh), but it does also feature January Jones as the seemingly evil wife pulling the long con.

Liam Neeson and Aidan Quinn. Who cares if there's a plot or not.

Ugh, January Jones. No thanks.

I would see it but for January Jones. They could have saved some salary by substituting a mannequin.

Or an upright vacuum cleaner with a wig on the handle. Maybe some googly eyes.

WOO HOO Michael Collins reunion! sign me up.

So what you are looking at here is at Liam Neeson in roles that were Harrison Ford's 10 years ago.. and doing them them, much, much better. By which I mean he doesn't doesn't look like a fucking victim. I was watching Frantic the other day and that shit had me squirming all over the place, painful to watch Ford's face looking like he was getting gang raped down in cell block 3.

That's quite a cast.... Aidan Quinn, Diane Kruger, Frank Langella....

P.S. According to IMDb, this is called Unknown White Male.

Oh, I love me some January Jones bashing!
Everyone ELSE in this movie can act!

And I see from IMDB that the lovely Miss Jones will be bringing her prodigious non-talent to X-Men: First Class playing Emma Frost, now filming.

Well, while you folks are doing this pretty silly boycott of this Jones lady, I'll be watching Neeson act all pissed and beat the crap out of people. Because that can never be ruined.

In fact, I am going to find my Darkman DVD and pop it in now. Just because.

Actually, this doesn't look like a reverse Bourne so much as the original Bourne from the books. If you haven't read those and you intend on seeing this movie (as I do, I can't resist Liam Neeson punching people in the face), then I won't ruin it for you. In any case, the actual concept behind Bourne Identity is way more complicated than a spy gets amnesia. If it hadn't been for they're really good execution, it would have been unforgivable that they had reduced such a neat idea to the same idea as The Long Kiss Goodnight (another favorite movie due to Shane Black's screenwriting, but one that no one else has seen due to Gina Davis, I'll wager).

Really? Diane Kruger as a god damn cabbie?

That's just insulting my intelligence. You could drive a battleship through that plot hole. Sideways. With room to spare. For a planet.

I'm sure she turns out to be 'more than a cabbie'.

hell puppetDoug, everyone I know loves Long Kiss Goodnight.

Why does Pajiba hate January Jones? Did I miss something? I always thought she was fine on Mad Men and she's certainly easy on the eyes.

Posted by: jcollier at October 22, 2010 10:19 PM

Hey, Nigeltde EVERYONE loves the Long Kiss Goodnight.

This trailer hit my palate and I got distinct notes of The Game. It went down and left me with a general The Net aftertaste.
