Let's Play Master and Servant: "Downton Abbey" Season 2 Trailer and Christmas Special Photos

Honestly, if I had only seen the trailer and never the series itself, this “Downton Abbey” Season 2 preview would have me first poking fun at its cliched and overwrought style and then, quickly running far, far away. It’s positively goofy and not too far off from a Carol Burnett spoof. To my great surprise, the first series sucked me in harder than a pervert’s privates to a vacuum nozzle, with a delightfully wicked group of servants and masters who masterfully manipulate and/or lust after each other. If you don’t regularly tend toward period dramas or the idea of a snobby, sometimes wealthy noble family, give this one a shot. Even if you don’t fall in love with any of the Crawleys, you might still be taken in by their alternately wicked and conniving, stern and stoic, and sometimes sweet and adorable staff. But don’t base your impressions on this ridiculous teaser…at least give the first couple of episodes a chance.

Plug your ears and poke some fun:

Season 2 already aired across the pond and is scheduled to premiere stateside January 8, 2012. Meanwhile, a 2-hour Christmas Day Special will be another feast for which we must wait, as PBS has yet to announce when we lowly Americans will have the privilege of a viewing (since it continues on from Season 2, perhaps it will be tacked on at the end). Until then, we’ll have to make do with a few casting details and some lovely photos.

*Note: If you consider photos Spoilers, get out now.

Nigel Havers (“Little Britain, Brothers and Sisters, Coronation Street”) will star as Lord Hepworth; Samantha Bond (“Outnumbered, The Queen”) portrays Lady Rosamund Painswick; Sharon Small (“Mistresses, Murderland”) plays visiting lady’s maid Marigold Shore.

I thought the header photo was more of that Twilight none sense, then I looked closely and felt the betrayal of Downton. Such a stupid picture. I cheated and watched season 2 online. A lot more silly things take place, but it's still pretty awesome. The costume porn abounds!

It looked like another vampire movie to me as well.

I watched season one and then plowed right into season two (thanks to Joanna). I love it all. I love them all. Except for Thomas.

Also, IAIN GLEN.

Oh yes that Thomas is an evil one. Love this programme. Production values are fantastic, acting brilliant and the costumes gorgeous. But I don't understand the Mary love -- have finished watching season 2, and still think she is a b...h. And doesn't Sybil, with that pouty mouth, look like a young Angeline Jolie?

Season 2 isn't nearly as good as season 1. Season 2 is missing a plot. It's as if Fellowes decided to drag the season into a completely new direction every episode.

In addition to that, it's totally cheesy.

Yet, all the same, watching it was tremendous fun. Just don't expect something, you know, good.

Play master and servant huh? I usually have to pay an extra fifty for that.

Yeah, I enjoyed the second season quite a bit, but the first season was much better. I liked all the pretty.

It took me a couple of episodes but then I got sucked into the entire series. Can't wait for it to come out here...
