(Lee) Pace is the Trick: Ceremony Trailer

The trailer for Max Winkler’s debut feature, Ceremony has me feeling all corn-fused and upside down. Usually, romantic comedies turn me off; this, I’d consider seeing . Normally, I’d immediately fall for the quirky underdog and though Sam (Michael Angarano, Red State, Almost Famous, “24”) is cute in a way and clearly witty and funny, he’s also short and annoying. The female lead is often sympathetic and likable, but I find Uma Thurman’s Zoe thoroughly dull and I kept wondering why either of the leads would be attracted to her (other than her outward beauty). Lee Pace (A Single Man, The Fall, “Pushing Daisies”) is clearly supposed to be the pompous ass we don’t like (because the girl really belongs with the quirky underdog), but that’s not happening at all. It’s Lee Pace! He’s hot! And he has an accent! So as I mentioned, I’m terribly confused and I need your help. Is it just me, or is this thing all backwards?

Reece Thompson (Rocket Science) plays Sam’s best friend, Marshall, duped into what he thinks is a guy’s weekend together but is really Sam’s plan to stop Zoe’s wedding. The film also stars Rebecca Mader (“No Ordinary Family, Lost”) and Jake M. Johnson (No Strings Attached, Get Him to the Greek). Winkler’s script is meant to turn our expectations against us and if the film is anything like the trailer, I’d say he has succeeded. But I am guessing that Uma ends up with Lee, as any sane woman would.

um am i the only one thats weirded out by the fact she's 40 and Michael's 23?

Posted by: ZACSNYDERSTOLEMYSOUL at March 28, 2011 5:37 PM

Wow, he's really good-looking.

Also, I just don't get Uma Thurman. Don't get it. Isn't she too old for Michael Angarano? When were they dating before? When he was 12?

Posted by: denesteak at March 28, 2011 5:40 PM

mmmmmmm I love Lee Pace.

Posted by: beletseri at March 28, 2011 5:40 PM

Loving that Interpol reference.

Lee Pace is the trick, the treat, and the bowl of help-yourself candy on the porch. He lights the flame in my lantern, if yaknowwhattamean.

Posted by: Lauren at March 28, 2011 5:55 PM

Also love the Interpol reference, but I love Lee Pace even more.
Pace+eyeliner in The Fall= I will be in my bunk for about five days.

Every time that man smiles, I get all swoony and want to start giggling kind of awkwardly. He's the only famous person who I respond to in such a way.

Posted by: DominaNefret at March 28, 2011 5:59 PM

*sigh* Lee Pace...
Yes, quite backwards indeed.
This trailer does look more promising than what I was expecting based on the original tidbits on IMDB (what? doesn't everyone periodically check Lee Pace's page to see when we can see him next...?).
I'd love to see him on stage (but perhaps in the "The Normal Heart" instead of that S&M play).

I don't understand why we aren't getting more of him in leading film roles. I partly blame ABC and his agent for not pushing him as a new heartthrob in magazines & such during Pushing Daisies.

Hopefully his appearing in the upcoming Twatlight installments won't be for nothing...

Michael Angarano is such a cutie (that may sound cougar-y, but not really, I just want to pinch his cheeks and ruffle his hair), but this looks boring. I don't even think I'd watch it on cable.

lee pace is great but the rest of that not so much

Posted by: splinter at March 28, 2011 8:49 PM

I really really really hope Pace isn't gay, simply because if he isn't, I still have the tiniest, tiniest chance...

Posted by: dsbs at March 28, 2011 10:01 PM

I may be missing this whole Lee Pace thing, but I don't find him incredibly, panties-droppingly attractive...

Posted by: thimble at March 28, 2011 10:03 PM

Oh. Pieman. With the scruff. And the smile. Look what you've done to my pants.

The movie may be unremarkable, but Im glad to see him getting more work.

The casting is so weeeeeird... can't compute. Is Zoe and Sam's mother best friends? Lee Pace is just too adorable and unassuming to be swarmy. Don't...get...it... and short.

Posted by: brdkelli at March 29, 2011 1:03 AM

oh that picture... there are bad things brewing in my head. Very bad things.

Posted by: Even Stevens at March 29, 2011 1:06 AM

dsbs, that is EXACTLY what I was saying on FB. Are we twins?
God, that man! The smile, the scruffiness, the crinkly eyes, the eyebrows, the hair, the size of all of him. Ahem! Damn it, it's too early for me to get this flustered!

Posted by: Kateshi Rinkichiku at March 29, 2011 3:27 AM

Maybe he's bisexual. That way everyone wins.

Posted by: Uda at March 29, 2011 4:19 AM

Lee Pace is always, always the answer. Be it in Pushing Daisies, in The Fall (God, I love that movie) or as a woman making out with Troy Garity.
I should really rewatch Soldier's Girl...

Posted by: Vanessa at March 29, 2011 4:24 AM

He kinda looks like a drag-king in that last pic.

Posted by: Bucko at March 29, 2011 10:39 AM

Wait. He IS gay?!?!?

brb.

Posted by: Hopeful at March 29, 2011 1:07 PM

Kateshi Rinkichiku, have you seen Wonderfalls? That was when The Crush happened. Aaron Tyler is one of the sexiest characters I have ever seen on TV. Ned was okay, too.

Posted by: dsbs at March 29, 2011 1:13 PM

why do people keep trying to make lee pace into the bad guy? dude is hot, he's a dork and talented and everyone should want to sleep with him. evidence? see wonderfalls or pushing daisies.

Posted by: littlealbatross at March 29, 2011 4:06 PM

Ah, Pushing Daisies, I'm straight as an arrow, but I'd get down on the muffin to get between Anna Friel and Lee Pace one thousand times out of a hundred.
