Knights Of Badassdom Trailer: I Never Knew LARPing Could Be This Awesome (No, Seriously)

I have no idea how this movie came to be. It looks like it could potentially be abolutely hilarious. It also looks like it should be a midnight screening at a science-fiction film festival. It looks like a movie that should be littered with SyFy channel castoffs and badly-aged 80’s and 90’s stars.

Instead, The Knights Of Badassdom stars Steve Zahn, Peter Dinklage, Summer Glau, and Danny Pudi… and a few other lesser TV folks. It’s the nerdiest trailer ever for what may well be the nerdiest movie ever. A film about a group of LARPers (Live Action Role Players, wherein people dress up and play a sort of live Dungeons & Dragons), who inadvertantly summon an actual demon and are forced to fight for their lives.

It looks pretty goddamn great, even if it looks like it was made for a buck and a quarter.

Take a look:

Fucking Dinklage, man. I’ll watch him in anything, but I truly love him here. The only thing I don’t get is how you can make this movie, yet you don’t cast Felicia Day. That’s just crazy, man.

I'm glad they didn't cast Felicia Day. I have a feeling that she would go the way of Natalie Portman if overexposed: need a cute girl who's a nerd? OMG FELICIA DAY! Keep her tucked away for a little while longer. :(

Also, where's the mention for Ryan Kwanten, considering he's, you know, IN THE HEADER PIC? It looks like an HBO exec's acid trip in that header pic: Tyrion Lannister if he were a down-on-his-luck crack addict and Jason Stackhouse putting on the latest crazy-ass gear to battle them vampeers.

Oooh, he's an angry elf

Fucking Epic!

I Hope this gets into the theatre in Holland.

Don't knock that buck and a quarter! It looks like it was really well spent. Can't wait for this to come out! ("Fucking Dinklage, man." amen to that)

That looks pretty damned awesome.

That looks...incredible.

I can not fucking wait for this bit of camp. Steve Zahn's name made me cringe for a second until I saw the rest of the cast. I'm so glad to see Jimmi Simpson in there too. That cat needs to get more work. He's seriously under-used.

Ahhhh it's that guy from that episode of Party Down! I LOVE THAT GUY. And Jason Stackhouse has been underrated for a long time, methinks. Also, I miss Zahn. I miss him all the time.

#DINKLAAAGE.

ITS TIME TO LEVEL UP!

God damn I am excited for this movie.

It also makes me love all of those actors a little bit more for being in it.

Hmmm ... based on the headline image, and the trailer, I could have sworn that LARP was an acronym for Laughing At Retarded People. Hmmm .... what a stoopid picture.

The only thing that could make this better is if Olivia Wilde were in it playing Summer's sexy evil twin.

Posted by: Sefa at July 25, 2011 12:08 PM

She did look like Olivia Wilde didn't she?

OMG. This has made my week that a movie this amazing has been made. I cannot wait.

This is like Galaxy Quest Goes D&D.

I LOVE IT. I want it to come to the Netherlands too.

Posted by: Linda at July 25, 2011 1:48 PM

Hell yes!

That looks pretty damned awesome.

I've come to the conclusion that LARPing is victim of bad press. Actors become famous for dressing up in funny costumes and pretending to shoot spells from sticks of wood. LARPers are pathetic losers.

From now on, LARPers should say "I am in an amateur drama workshop focused on the fantasy genre...with funny dice".

Am I missing something here? This looks absolutely fucking awful.

Posted by: Neil at July 25, 2011 6:58 PM

@Neil: I think that's kind of the point dude. The question is, will it be awful enough.

Add "Tucker and Dale" for a double feature, and it's movie night at my place, sometime next year...

Posted by: Leroy Grey at July 25, 2011 10:18 PM

Awesome. I'm in.

Posted by: Brian at July 25, 2011 11:21 PM

looks good, presuming they haven't put it all in the trailer...
