Kirsten Dunst Seems To Really Enjoy Kissing Upside Down

The science fiction fantasy romance Upside Down began production in 2009, not long after the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies came to an end — along with Kirsten Dunst’s chances to make-out with her male co-stars, with at least one of the two not being right-side up. So it should come as no surprise that she jumped at the chance to star in a love story about people from different worlds. Literally. The worlds are mirror images of each other, facing each other through the sky where skies and stars ought to be. They can interact, but they really aren’t supposed to, as the denizens of “up” want to protect their better means and fancier lives from the citizens of “down,” thus enabling the Romeo-and-Juliet-like romance between Jim Sturgess’s Adam and Dunst’s Eve.

The concept of Upside Down is pretty wild and might take a few minutes to totally wrap your heads around, but one that seems to work particularly well if the finally released trailer is any indication. It definitely offers up enough stirring imagery and hints of depth beyond just wire assisted make-out sessions to see why Dunst would take the role. And unlike Melancholia, the sci-fi elements appear to be more than just window dressing.

But don’t take my word for it. You have eyeballs and opinions for a reason:

Pretty striking, isn’t it? Original at the very least. There’s no set U.S. release date for Upside Down, yet, but I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled. If the movie does finally hit theaters this year, it’s just more evidence that 2012 might be one of the best years for movies since 1999. I guess that’s appropriate. Back then, we needed a good run before Y2K destroyed society, and now we’re rushing toward greatness before the Mayan Apocalypse dooms us all.

Until then, enjoy this teaser poster. And because it’s not the best quality, I’ve included a rather radass still from the movie below. Cheers.

Rob Payne also writes the indie comic The Unstoppable Force, tweets on the Twitter @RobOfWar, and his ware can be purchased here (if you’re into that sort of thing). He’s expecting to blow all his hardly earned cash on movies this year, even if the world doesn’t by this time in 2013.

For whatever reason, Firefox isn't letting me play the video. Probably for the best though, because even the thought of Mcsnaggletoooth typically keeps me awake at night

that video is being a little bitch.
here it is from youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qahaiYkf-Bc

"Cette video n'est plus disponible" - Not even sure what that means, but I think it is a likely good summary for the movie in general and not just for the fact that the trailer is unavailable.

And really? Adam and Eve? Godtopus I want to kick some pretentious little film-school snot's ass for that.

Bah! The video worked just fine last night. I've updated the post with the link gp provided (thanks, gp!). Nobody complain about it being YouTube, because -- consarnit -- I already tried another version.

Happy New Year, my ass.

Great title.

Normally Dunst gives me the creeping horrors, but this looks interesting enough to check out if it ever gets a theatrical release.

Sturgess better be carefull she doesn't snag his upper lip with her snaggle tooth.

This makes me think somebody read The City & The City and decided it needed to be a love story instead of a noir mystery.

You took the comment right out of my fingertips, Sara Tonin.

I didn't much care for The City and The City, but I do care for Jim Sturgess making out with people. Unless it's in that One Day Movie.

That still kinda looks like a painting I picked up at Kim Jong-Il's garage sale.

Alas, apparently WB has pulled the trailer now. Why, why am I so destined (apparently) not to see this? I'm starting to formulate a conspiracy theory.

@Renia, I found the trailer on youtube (hope they don't delete this one now)

It looks pretty - but the potential for awkwardness (the ballroom dancing) is still there.
