Network Executive: “So, let’s make a version of “Torchwood” except for kids!”

Angel of Common Sense: “You mean like ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures?’”

Network Executive: “No, no, no. We’ll use a way cooler ‘Doctor Who’ character. Guess who?”

Angel of Common Sense: “Mickey?”

“The Master?”

“Martha?”

“Sally Sparrow?”

“Jenny?”

*this goes on for about twenty minutes…*

“Adam?”

“Christina?”

“K9?”

Network Executive: “Got it!”

*The Angel of Common Sense spontaneously bursts into flame*

*The network executive lights a cigar from the embers of the angel and the phone rings*

BBC President: “Satan called, he said we have to give you the show. But it’s on these conditions: you have to film it in Australia, never set foot in the UK again, and can never use any “Doctor Who” character other than the stupid robot dog.”

*Annnnnd scene*

Seriously, read this press release and watch this trailer and tell me that isn’t exactly how this played out.

“K9 - FIRST K9 - The Series: The long-awaited television series K9, featuring everyone’s favourite robot dog, is nearly with us!

Originally created for the 1970s DOCTOR WHO series by Bob Baker and Dave Martin, K9 has long been an iconic television character. Now a brand new series of K9 is several weeks into production. K9 is a children’s sci-fi/adventure series combining comedy, action and suspense — “X-Files” meets “Men in Black” with a zany dash of “Ghostbusters”. K9 mixes live action characters with stunning visual effects.

K9 and his three teenage companions become the earth’s front line defence against dangers threatening from anywhere and anytime in the galaxy. They will have a lot of fun, action, adventure, and some scares along the way, saving the earth from alien creatures, monsters, and more than a few human threats. Production commenced in early December 2008 on a specially built set just outside Brisbane, Australia. Shooting continues on this 26-part series until the end of April, and the series is expected to begin broadcast on Ten Network and Jetix Europe early in 2010.”

Well, let's see what Jay has to say about this.

..........

I...was just speechless there. Is this not a spin off too far? Is it real?

So it won't be shown in the UK?

People are already in fits about the new Doctor Who logo, this might actually kill them.

As soon as I saw the word "Torchwood" my poor little heart jumped. And then, a sinking feeling. Now I'm just depressed.

They were also sipping on martinis made from the tears of the innocent.

This idea was bad even when it was called "Dynomutt, Dog Wonder".

Sure, stupid executives make the decision and we're left to pick up after them. Somebody bring a shovel cause I don't want to touch it. Ew,ew,ew,ew,ew! It smells.

I'm not trying to be a Dick Dastardly. Growing up, I loved the Dog Blunder too, gp. I was just more of a Blue Falcon guy.

Didn't they already try "K-9 and Company" and it failed during the first episode?

Posted by: BWeaves at October 6, 2009 10:32 AM

But we all know where K-9 is. He hangs out with Sarah Jane. It's totally illogical to suppose he's now with teenagers (who, if you know K-9, he would completely despise anyway) doing something else, because the Sarah Jane arc has never been closed out.

Posted by: PaddyDog at October 6, 2009 10:59 AM

Hey, don't tarnish the Beeb with this shit; they have nothing to do with it, they don't own the rights to K-9,just like with the Daleks

Yes, we old Doctor Who fans remember that they already tried this once. There was a pilot back in 1981 with Sarah Jane as the sidekick.

It is quite jarring seeing K-9 flying around with those big ears. A lack of mobility was an inherent part of his charm for me.

Posted by: DarthCorleone at October 6, 2009 12:06 PM

Darth:

Totally agree on the ears, plus the fact that K-9 was sort of the Spock character of Doctor Who, so they completely lost me at "ha ha that tickles".

Also, why does he sound half-Asian, half-Windsor?

Posted by: PaddyDog at October 6, 2009 12:31 PM

Sadly, it actually looks better than "The Sarah Jane Adventures", which was boring and lame. Not sure how I feel about hover-K9 though, or those weird new ears. Looks like a gussied up Aibo.

I don't know how I feel about the series (I can't watch the video at work), but for the record, K9 in the Tom Baker series was fucking awesome. Suck it, haters.

I'm so disturbed by this... "stunning visual effects". I loved K-9 but he needs to be blown up already. Now its like Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E.

Posted by: Amanda at October 6, 2009 5:40 PM

Boooo! A thousand times BOOOOOOOOO! If they want to reboot K9, why didn't they write him into the excellent Sarah Jane Adventures?

There's a rule that whoever first refers to Nazis, Hilter or the Holocaust immediately loses the argument. I reckon the same should apply to press releases that use the words zany, romp or Brisbane. Seriously, have you ever been to Brisbane aka Brisneyland aka Brisvegas? They have to call it cute nicknames because the whole place smells like socks.

Zany, my fat arse. Go fuck yourselves, you fuckers. Go rape someone else's childhood.

Great: convicts, nuclear testing and now this. When will Australia finally tell England to stop dumping it's toxic waste here?

K9 is the best just wait it will catch on!
