I've Got My Pride, I Drink My Wine: First Trailer For Matthew McConaughey in Mud

Could it be? Is this a trailer for a movie I am genuinely interested in seeing? Yes, yes it is. Matthew McConaughey stars in Jeff Nichols' newest movie as a fugitive named Mud that befriends teens Ellis (Tye Sheridan) and Neckbone (Jacob Lofland). The boys help Mud avoid police, repair a boat, and assist him in finding his girlfriend, Juniper (Reese Witherspoon).

I can't pinpoint exactly what it is that makes me want to see Mud. McConaughey is menacing while exuding the kind of charm that makes it easy to see why two teenage boys would be attracted to him. The trailer is nice enough to give us what we need to be intrigued while leaving out the specifics of what Mud has done. Reese Witherspoon's character remains a sort of enigma; brutalized and looking lost and broken without spelling out how she came to be this person and how she feels about Mud. What do you think?

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

  • Idle Primate

    ah Primus. *nostalgia flood*

  • Rob

It's like "Savannah Smiles" on the Bayou.

  • lowercase_ryan

Quite the run he's on yes? I want to see this, especially after Killer Joe. Dude has got menacing down pretty good.

  • VonnegutSlut

It's almost as if fatherhood has driven our favorite shirtless wonder to give a shit about the quality of his movies & his performances.

Which is just fine with me--menacing McConaghey is good McConaghey.

After seeing both Shotgun Stories and Take Shelter there's only one bumper sticker I'm interested in plastering all over my forehead: 'All hail Jeff Nichols'

  • luckypete

Which would explain why I thought I saw Michael Shannon in the trailer?

  • Amen.

  • bleujayone

And thus began the illustrious and dubious career of one Harcourt Fenton Mudd. Years later, things would really take a turn for the bizarre when he took refuge inside a cryostasis lab....

  • I've been looking forward to this for a while!

  • Pajiba_Pragmatist

That looks considerably darker than "Failure to Launch"

  • KatSings

I can't watch this yet (work and all that jazz) but the names of these characters? They are terrible.

  • SeaKat Stabler

I was just saying to myself: "Mud, Neckbone, and Juniper?" SOLD.

I'm sorry, I love me some terribly-named characters.
