Hugo Trailer: Martin Scorsese Makes a Spielberg Movie. But Why? What's Going On Here?!

Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, formerly Hugo Cabret, stars Sacha Baron Cohen, Jude Law, Chloe Moretz, Emily Mortimer, and a kid straight out of Spielberg central casting as the title character. I had not read too much about Hugo Cabret, but the trailer is not what I expected from the director of Goodfellas, The Departed, Shutter Island, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Casino … you get the idea. Point being, there’s not much in Scorsese’s filmography that screams BIG WHIMSICAL FAMILY FILM but that’s exactly what Hugo suggests.

I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, I’m just saying, dude: There’s enough family fare to go around. Leave it to Spielberg and the Night at the Museum guy, you know? This holiday season, some of us would prefer to see dead bodies in trunks. Think of the grown-ups, won’t you?

Pretty sure Dustin meant to post something like that, or make the pic clicky-play style with his magic web powers.

Having watched it, I'm confused about when Zemeckis ate Scorsese's soul and inhabited his body?

It looks pretty.

It'd be a lovely surprise if the equation "Scorsese+derailed train" was able to have its honest, natural answer= severed legs.

Or at least have the screen flash to red.

I've been waiting for this one. I think it looks awesome. I decided to read the book when it was announced that Scorsese would direct it. Now I wish I hadn't.

You can't tell from the trailer but it is actually a movie about the love for Cinema, so it makes perfect sense why Scorsese directed it.

Are 534579 layer cakes really being carried so frequently that the majority of chase scenes in children's movies need to include one?

This just looks beyond bland.

They've totally ripped off Officer Crabtree from 'Allo 'Allo in that photo. I did a doubletake thinking it was Arthur Bostrum

I can't see this from work. So Kelsy does is the movie like old school Sesame Street with the baker saying, "9 chocolate layer cakes" and then falling down the stairs? I would see that movie.

It's charming. What's wrong with that?

thirty seconds to mars? seriously?

Totally Arthur Bostrum, first thing I thought :)

Yeah, but doesn't he have like a 10 year old daughter or something? Children usually take the edge off of adults, you know.

I really adored the book of this, and was incredibly excited for it to be made into a film. Seeing the trailer though.... I'm not as excited, somehow.

Also surprised by the 30STM song in the trailer. Eh.
