Nice Sidelocks, Jesse

Opening on May 21, Holy Rollers is about a Hasidic Jew (Jesse Eisenberg) in 1990 New York City, who gets involved in dealing ecstasy. And what better cover for selling pills are Payot? “Caught between life as a smuggler and the path back to God, Sam (Eisenberg) and his worlds begin to unravel.” The story is inspired by true events.

The movie looks just OK, but it is nice to see that Eisenberg is keeping his indie roots. Holy Rollers also stars Justin Bartha, Ari Graynor, Danny A. Abeckaser and Q-Tip.

Matisyahu! starring the good Cera?

I don't get why we call him the good Cera...I mean I guess I get it, I just don't think he's actually a good actor. He plays the same fucking awkward virgin in every movie (OK in both of the movies I've seen him in, Adventureland and Zombieland). He reminds me of Kristen Stewart actually. She does the whole lip biting thing, he just stares off looking thoughtful.

You know what you're right. I think the acceptable Cera would be a better term. He's not good but if I have to have an awkward virgin in my movie I'll take eisenberg with his moderate level of acting ability, over the stammering one note pony that is Cera any day.

I disagree with both of you on the merits of The Squid and the Whale, in which he is fantastic.

Yeah Eisenberg pretty much sold that movie for me. I think it's easy to forget where he came from when you know he's gonna get prostituted as that same adventureland role for the next 6 years. I gotta give the kid credit for sticking with these weirder little indie roles.

I think Cera is the bad Eisenberg at this point.

What would Anton Yelchin be? The good Eisenberg? The spectacular Cera? And couldn't Cera just be relegated to being simply a subpar version of himself?

This is the first time I'm discovering that someone seriously goes by the name "Q-tip." I once used a Q-tip to help pull a piece of material my dog had swallowed out of his ass because it was stuck and binding up the poor guy's plumbing.

Pretty much, I have never used a Q-tip in any way that wasn't disgusting on some level--don't try to tell me cleaning wax out of an ear isn't a little gross. So I can definitely see why I'd want that to be my name. You know what I truly identify with? The tiny-cotton-on-a-stick device you use to swab out bodily waste and then discard. That's me. Fucking Q-tip.

Good Question Fi. I think Yelchin is actually the better Jamie Bell, but with a sense of humor.

Posted by: Blank at April 9, 2010 1:50 PM

Oh, good point, Blank. I love Jamie Bell, but Yelchin might be the better actor in some instances. In any case, can we agree that Yelchin and Bell are on an entirely different (and better) level than Eisenberg and Cera?

Good job for sticking with something low key Jessie! Loved him in Adventureland.

Ooh! Ooh! Ari Graynor!
And I agree, it goes:

* Cera
** Eisenberg
*** Yelchin!!

There are people who have never heard of A Tribe Called Quest? I pity you. Also, Q-Tip's last album was unbelievable.

@Fi

Agreed. I mean Dear Wendy and Charlie Bartlett.
You know who else would fit in this conversation? That kid from Meet Bill. He's a total Yelchin Rip off.

Oh and by the way anyone thats never heard of Q-tip...go take a sunny afternoon, and spend it with any tribe called quest album. You can go wrong with well written hip hop that's completely positive.
