Original? No. But Hey... Rip Torn!

Here’s the trailer for Happy Tears, which I confess, doesn’t enrage me. It doesn’t make my heart leap, but it’s not bad, either. It’s about two sisters (Parker Posey and Demi Moore) who come home to care for their aging father (Rip Torn, before he started knocking over banks), and then discovering that he has a new girlfriend (Ellen Barkin). It’s filled with the kind of sentimentality and occasional wackiness that films in the genre usually are. One girl is the sensible one who doesn’t take risks, the other is the zany adventurous one, the dad’s eccentric, and so on and so forth.

Not exactly original. But that said, the cast is pretty righteous, and it’s directed by Michael Lichtenstein. Lichtenstein also directed 2007’s Teeth, also known as a movie so fucking squicky that I don’t even like to type the name. So if nothing else, he knows how to grab an audience. METAPHORICALLY.

Anyway, it looks decent, I suppose. It’s hard to go wrong with Rip Torn, and Posey’s always fun. Take a look:
