Can a Drew Barrymore Rom Com Succeed Without Adam Sandler? I Think So

Here is the super cute, super adorable trailer for Going the Distance, a long-distance romantic comedy starring on-again, off-again real-life couple Justin Long and Drew Barrymore. If it succeeds, and the trailer suggests that it may be one of the better studio romantic comedy offerings in recent memory, it may do so on the strength of the supporting cast, which includes Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, and Christina Applegate.

It really is super cute and super adorable, too. Probably a little too much so for some of you. But I’m optimistic, which is something I haven’t been about a studio romantic comedy in a very long time. It helps, too, that director Nanette Burnstein comes from an indie background, as is probably apparent by the lack of pratfalls in the trailer.

Indeed, I think you might be able to love a Drew Barrymore rom-com without feeling guilty about it this time.

I gotta be honest. I busted out laughing at Gaffigan's part.

They should hand this nicely optimistic snippet out with descriptions of the movie, because it looks DUMB. Oh, long distance is hard! Can we make it!? I don't know I'm gonna cry when you're not here *sad face*!

Although the table sex gag wasn't bad, nice to see Gaffigan.

Can I just say? Drew looks adorable. I don't think I noticed that before.

7) I love stupid romantic comedies with good actors

ergo, 8) I will probably love this movie

I hope they make it work.

Cause damn, as someone in a long-distance relationship, we get the short end of the stick in pop culture.

How I met your mother, anyone?

That movie looks charming x12.

However, it must be said that no-one should ever date Drew Barrymore. She starts fires.

I actually laughed, laughed I tell you. This RomCom didn't make me gag, and that is enough to get me there. That and I like this whole cast.

It's okay, AvB - I'm with you. It looks lovely.

Jim Gaffigan rocks.
Charlie's a comedy god.
So, I guess I'm in.

AvB, my thoughts exactly. I love Drew Barrymore (along with all the other things listed) more than I should.

I love me some Charlie Day and that looks pretty cute. Also can we talk about how criminally underused the name "Erin" is in movies? It's really one of the best names ever (note: I may or may not be prejudiced on this subject) and the only other movie character I can think of named Erin was Jessica Biel's character in that horrendous Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake. It's criminal!

I hope it's good. I haven't seen a good romcom in way too long. Probably because nobody's made a good romcom in so long.

Also, every time I see "romcom" I want to follow it with "om nom nom."

Finally: I need to eat lunch.
