There is just something about a Hollywood murder mystery that never gets old. The city was made for noir — the nightlife, the urban sprawl, the beautiful people with their beautiful homes, the fact that everyone is already an actor so anyone could be lying and/or backstabbing at any point. It’s a perfect environment. And Gemini seems to be cashing in on all that potential for danger and intrigue, if this new trailer is anything to go by:

The film, which screened at SXSW, stars Lola Kirke (Gone Girl) as Jill, the tenacious personal assistant and confidante to starlet Heather (played by Zoƫ Kravitz, Big Little Lies). A violent crime sends Jill on the run to uncover the truth while examining what she thinks she knows about friendship and celebrity.

She’s not the only trying to unravel the mystery, because guess what! John Cho is the (smoking hot) detective on the case! He seems intimidating as hell, and likely won’t be fooled by the different wigs Jill seems to wear in the trailer (though personally, I’m a sucker for a good disguise). The film also stars Greta Lee (High Maintenance), Michelle Forbes (True Blood), and the incomparable Ricki Lake (Hairspray). Oh, and Dorian Gray himself, Reeve Carney (Penny Dreadful), is in this too. Seeing him in the trailer made me miss that crazy-ass show all over again.

Written and directed by Aaron Katz, the trailer hints at a dreamy, lush visual style that ought to be interesting in what seems to be a tension-filled caper. Will it undercut the mood, or make it even more tense? The film is due to be released sometime in the spring of 2018, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
