Who says you can’t win an Emmy by going full retard? I think Julianne Moore has just locked up next year’s Emmy for best Actress in a Miniseries. Here’s the teaser for HBO’s Game Change, which follows Senator McCain’s decision to choose Sarah Palin as his vice presidential nominee. Ed Harris plays McCain, and Woody Harrelson plays his political consultant.

From what I can see on their IMDB page, it seems like they are sticking with the Republican side of the campaign -- there's no credits for an Obama or Biden character.

Hopefully they don't go the hokey route where it's just the back of Obama's head or just a handshake, also known in the industry as the "Muppet Babies Procedure."

Man, that's creepy how good she is.

McCain had a shot until that nomination. He never recovered in the polls after it and for good reason.

Posted by: Matt at December 21, 2011 5:28 PM

I sure wish they would have said "game changer" a few more times.

easily the greatest blog title of all time

Agent 355, please don't go to Paris.

Looks fine and all, but the "up next" clip on that imbed was a Life And Times Of Tim Season 3 trailer.

Much better. Very excited.

Game Change does not refer to Palin alone. The book was about Clinton, Obama, Biden, McCain AND Palin. In fact, the most interesting part of the book is the Hilary / Obama dynamic. I would argue that the game change that the title refers to was MUCH more about how Obama turned the game on Hilary (and everyone for that matter). Palin was a "game changer" for all of 2 minutes the day she was brought in to the race, and then nothing after. She's not even in the first 2/3 of the book.

I really hope this teaser is just a snippet, like how game of thrones does teasers for each character or something. Otherwise, HBO needs to stop taking non-fiction books like this and Too Big Too Fail and adapting them in to utter fiction. It's bad for our collective memories of history. It's also just bad TV. Well, I guess it's not TV it's HBO, so it's bad HBO.

You betcha !!

aidan,

I heard they're going the Peanuts Gang route and anyone associated with the Democrats are always depicted off screen and their voices is substituted by a trombone with a plunger mute.

Sadly, despite this advantage, Palin still clearly loses the debates.

Motherfucka Please! I had a better chance of doing a threesome with JLo and Emily Blunt than McCranky did at becoming President.

Posted by: Pookie at December 21, 2011 7:06 PM

Pookie your taste in woman half sucks. The fat ass half.

Posted by: clancys_daddy at December 21, 2011 8:12 PM

Ugh...I think I lost my eternal hard on for Ed Harris after watching that.

Posted by: Alex at December 21, 2011 8:17 PM

@Clancy

Of course you wouldn't like a woman like JLo, you would actually have to have a somewhat functioning dick. But you aren't alone, for some reason most white guys are intimidated by JLo.

Posted by: Pookie at December 21, 2011 8:43 PM

Ed Harris does not look anything like McCain, but since it's Ed Fucking Harris, it doesn't matter. He'll make me believe.

Posted by: John G. at December 21, 2011 9:34 PM

Oh gosh, golly, I know what happens at the end of this one.

Intimidated? Oh, hell naw.

I'm just really, really sorry for Hispanic people that their best-known cultural representatives in the U.S. are Jennifer Lopez and George Lopez.

Posted by: , at December 22, 2011 1:53 AM

In the UK the best known representatives are Ricky Martin and Hcheniffer Lopethh - Cartman's Hand Puppet. Is that any better?

Generally, the book Game Change eviscerated the Republican candidates (and John Edwards). If this film is in any way true to the tone and information in the book, this film teaser is trolling right-wingers hard by even letting them expect a positive view of their campaign...

I was obsessively reading any and all coverage of the '08 election, and I've never read anything more scathingly damaging towards McCain's baffling indifference towards the office/borderline senility... Palin's shallow incompetence... Edwards comes across as pure Satan and both his wife and mistress seem evil and insane... and the Clinton's are robotic and inhuman. Obama's the only one who comes through smelling like a rose... if a frighteningly ambitious rose.

This film will be completely untrue to the entire energy of the book if
a) no dirt is dished on candidates- including hissy fits, sex scandals, and uncomfortable moments all around
b) Palin and Mccain don't look Really bad
c) There is nothing about the Edwards family freakout/meltdown.

Game Change is everything the other commenters described. BUT, you could easily cut that book into thirds and make a movie out of each piece - and it's looks as though this trailer is doing so. Is Palin so easy to imitate that Tina Fey and Julianne Moore can do effortless impressions?

The book's greatest flaw IMO is that it really reflects the banal evil of the Washington press corps. It's 'common sense', dishing the dirt while not really changing the entire dynamic of the existing narrative of the 2008 campaigns, showing the evils of the system while writing off the evil as the inevitable by-product.

Whatever you think of Sarah Palin, you didn't need to call her a retard in your title. Using a slur that demeans people with special needs just wasn't necessary. The last time I checked, retard didn't mean stupid. It's people like you that have no regard for people with differences. Sad that you have to have a family member with a disability to get what I'm saying.

Glad to know how highly you think of Hispanics, to even suggest that the height of Hispanic culture is JLo and George Lopez is earth shatteringly stupid on your part.

Posted by: Pookie at December 22, 2011 9:37 AM

I almost don't want to know, but is that actually the theme from Inception?

Like, they actually associate this pack of dopes in the same intellectual spirit of Inception?

Posted by: Laurie at December 22, 2011 9:53 AM

pile on... the media is on your side. if the media and SNL were to
suddenly tilt in the other direction pelosi and reid would provide
all the material they need. meanwhile, those 2 " retards " fly
under the radar.

Posted by: snake at December 22, 2011 10:26 AM

How could they do that to sexy Ed Harris?

@Pookie
Hispanic female here.
He was making a funny. For the longest time he only Cubans anyone knew were Ricky Ricardo and Scarface. Now I have Eva Mendes.

C'mon, Pooks, you know me better than to think that's what I meant. I mean the U.S. would be a far better place, culturally, if J-Lo went back to being nobody and figgy was on the cover of every magazine.

Posted by: , at December 22, 2011 11:58 AM

You, figgy and I have about as much talent as the next person that writes a comment about this post.
You can attack a person's talent, but to attack their culture is where I draw the line.
