Choose Your Own Pajiba!

As loyal readers of Pajiba, you now have a unique opportunity to advance your own destinies! Normally, I send Dustin a list of movies coming out that week in L.A., and let him pick which flicks I should review. I write up a few paragraphs, violate the laws of grammar and decency, splash in a few swear words and hipstery metaphors, and voila! A review that nobody really gives a good goddamn about. But now, we’re passing the savings ON TO YOU!

Below is the trailer for an indie flick that’s been dazzling British audiences: Fish Tank. It’s a coming-of-age story about a young 15-year-old girl just trying to survive an unhappy household. It looks kind of like a fish and chips version of Precious, so I’m a bit wary. But who am I to judge?

Fish Tank’s future is in your hands! It’s getting released in LA somewhere near the end of the month, and if enough people give a damn, I’ll write up a review. If you couldn’t care less, then neither will I, and the Interwebs will be spared more of my inane ramblings.

Cheers!

Im from the UK and I havent bothered to see it. I dont know if you have already but the brit flick 'London to Brighton' is very good and well worth a watch and a review?

Posted by: Nieve 'The Threadkiller Queen' at January 6, 2010 5:17 PM

Yeah, if precious was hot. *misses the point.

Do it. We could always use more Prisco.

Posted by: Kevin Longrie at January 6, 2010 5:19 PM

I vote yes.

Posted by: Jim Doggie at January 6, 2010 5:25 PM

I can't watch the trailer with sound at work, but I vote more Prisco = better, so why the hell not?

Posted by: MM at January 6, 2010 5:29 PM

Fuck it in it's hairy butthole until said hairy butthole rips and bleeds profusely ruining not just one but 4 pairs of jeans forever.

Posted by: Fappy McFapper at January 6, 2010 5:36 PM

I have not seen this, but I did see the Glasgow based Red Road, by the same director. My friends were in it. Yay for my friends. Good ol' Tam from the Gorbals, who always plays Father Christmas at the Citizen's Theatre community production (I played Elf #2) as well as Fran, who describes her character as "the lassie who got pumped ootside by the wall".

Posted by: TSF at January 6, 2010 5:38 PM

MORE PRISCO! MORE PRISCO! MORE PRISCO!!

Hey, I'm in LA! Can I come, too? I promise not to knock you out afterwards and hold you captive in my dank garage.

Seriously, though, I want to watch a film with some 'jibans sometime. That would be nifty.

Posted by: Jelinas at January 6, 2010 5:39 PM

Jelinas >> I'll aid you in your kidnap-Prisco plot. I believe he frequents the Sunset Laemmle for these indies. Let the stalking begin!

Posted by: DarthCorleone at January 6, 2010 5:44 PM

Looks like Precious meets White Oleander. Might be good. I vote: yes.

Posted by: Lindsay at January 6, 2010 5:52 PM

its called your job, so fucking do it you lazy bastard.

Posted by: L.O.V.E. at January 6, 2010 5:59 PM

Um, that was a "yes" vote, by the way.

Posted by: L.O.V.E. at January 6, 2010 6:00 PM

I vote you review it if you promise not to select that 15 year old for your most bangable list this year.

Posted by: becks at January 6, 2010 6:05 PM

sorry, becks, but she is actually over 18. she's fair game. Though I likes 'em with a little more meat on their bones, myself.

Posted by: L.O.V.E. at January 6, 2010 6:09 PM

Yes, please.

Posted by: Peanut_Butter_And_James at January 6, 2010 6:09 PM

Okay, Darth, you bring the duct tape and I'll bring the chloroform!! Any other conspirators out there?

Posted by: Jelinas at January 6, 2010 6:13 PM

I couldn't make it thru the whole trailer, so my vote is no. However, I am fascinated, as always, in the turn the comment thread has taken. The rape and pillage just seems to leak out of any crack, doesn't it?

Posted by: the_wakeful at January 6, 2010 6:26 PM

After watching the trailer, I might try to see the movie. I'm not really that interested in whether or not you review it or in reading it if you do.

Posted by: Brett at January 6, 2010 6:33 PM

I planned to see it when it came out last year, but I got distracted by a shiny obj...oooh, look, sparkles!

Posted by: Joker at January 6, 2010 7:00 PM

yes - because of that one moment there where she goes from chin up, to 'Am I actually in control?' to 'Does this mean I'm in control?' to being committed to whatever it is she's about to do in three seconds flat.

Tell me how it works out.
(Please and thank you, Mr. Prisco. I love your reviews and look forward to more. I am committed here, unlike Brett. Brett isn't as committed as me, you can tell.)

Posted by: replica at January 6, 2010 7:07 PM

I'd like a review. I'll probably not get to see this until it's on DVD for a variety of reasons and would like to hear more about it.

Posted by: Robert at January 6, 2010 7:07 PM

I was just kidding anyway L.O.V.E. He picked Emma Roberts last year I believe. That dirty old man! He likes 'em young.

Posted by: becks at January 6, 2010 7:09 PM

Horses and Dancing? I didn't see ANY FISH! These people are liars!

Posted by: Optimus Rhyme at January 6, 2010 7:09 PM

Your reviews are always my favorite so I'm in favor of you reviewing anything Prisco.

Posted by: becks at January 6, 2010 7:11 PM

Review the shit outta that bitch, Prisco!

Posted by: Jerce at January 6, 2010 7:19 PM

I've seen it, it's really good-better than This is England. beautiful images and great acting. you should review it.

Posted by: sasha at January 6, 2010 7:25 PM

becks, i thought you had to be joking so I went back and looked that shit up myself. And my God you're right.

Emma Roberts? Prisco has a hard-on for Nancy Drew?

Who is he going to put on the 2010 list? Madeline? Dora the Explorer? The girl from the AT&T u-verse commercial who wants to watch Happy Pony?

What a perve.

Posted by: L.O.V.E. at January 6, 2010 7:31 PM

I've seen it. Pretty good, nothing amazing by any means. Buuuuuuuuuut Michael Fassbender is very very attractive and definitely one to watch. Loved him in this and inglorious basterds.

Posted by: Katie at January 6, 2010 7:58 PM

I'd skip it

Posted by: ColeTrain at January 6, 2010 8:21 PM

YES!

Posted by: Bizarro SofĂa at January 6, 2010 9:04 PM

Skip it!
and DarthCorleone and Jelinas I live in Prisco's frickin' neighborhood. I won't help you kidnap but I could probably case the joint.

Posted by: welldressed at January 6, 2010 9:37 PM

I vote yes.

Posted by: figgy at January 6, 2010 9:41 PM

the fassbender is in it so I'm gonna go with a loud yes, dude got shot in the balls, I think he deserve a bit of love

Posted by: rio at January 6, 2010 9:51 PM

Well, welldressed, every little bit counts.

Btw, the_wakeful, this is a simple kidnapping. No one said anything about raping or pillaging. What do you think, that Darth and I are a pair of crazy degenerates or something? Geez, you just hear "duct tape" and your imagination just runs away with you, doesn't it?

Seriously, though, Darth and welldressed, we should hang out. Even if we don't actually kidnap Prisco. But we should totally kidnap Prisco.

Posted by: Jelinas at January 6, 2010 10:11 PM

@ TSF
Are you a native to Glasgow or a temporary resident?
Is that a shot of Dumbarton Road on your website?

Fancy a pint some time in Oran Mor?

Posted by: frank (aka frank_247 aka the lone Scotsman) at January 6, 2010 10:44 PM

Ever laugh so hard that you fart, and that fart comes out at the same rate as your laughter so it sounds like your ass is snickering right along with you?

Well, I don't think that was the intended reaction of this trailer. I think it was right about the point she starts stroking the horse's ass. I'm sure in the movie it's something more meaningful...probably.

Posted by: bleujayone at January 6, 2010 11:16 PM

@ frank

It is actually a shot of Govan Road. I am not a native Glaswegian, no (my national identity and background are rather convoluted). I'm always up for a pint, old chap. A friend of mine actually works at Oran Mor in fact (at least she used to).

Posted by: TSF at January 6, 2010 11:19 PM

I'm not in there as often as I used to, but still visit once in a while. I still occasionally fall in love with the bar-staff though....

Posted by: frank (aka frank_247 aka the lone Scotsman) at January 6, 2010 11:52 PM

Prisco could't write entertaining about the phonebook.

You know, that thick pile of faxes our parents used when they wanted to look up phone numbers.

I'm not against kidnappings, but could you guys still let him go to the movies? And write?

No bogarding Prisco's please?

Posted by: Magiel at January 7, 2010 6:59 AM

I'm in the more Prisco is a great thing for 'Jiba camp. Inane my ass. You are our entertainment, good sir. Write like the wind!

Simple question: It says in the trailer it was released on "11th September". Does this come Oscar season this is the film critics will "never forget"?

(waits for laughter)

(crickets)

(waits more)

(frogs eating crickets)

I forget, are we allowed to make September 11th jokes, particularly ones that mock the fact that we have a tagline for a national tragedy? I'll just respectfully say, "Pass this film, Prisco"; and go back to my corner of the room respectfully.

Posted by: Doctor Controversy at January 7, 2010 11:27 AM

Apologies, the last post was supposed to start as follows:

"Simple question: It says in the trailer it was released on "11th September". Does this mean that come Oscar season this is the film critics will "never forget"?"

Apologies, I'm not a spambot.

Posted by: Doctor Controversy at January 7, 2010 11:30 AM

Do it, do it NOW!

Posted by: Se7en2 at January 7, 2010 1:10 PM

The trailer looks average, but it may be a good movie. I vote YES

Posted by: Dorothy Parker's Ghost at January 7, 2010 2:09 PM

Well, it looks like "Step Up 2: The Streets" meets "Spirit" meets "Thirteen" which will obviously make for an interesting two hours full of virginity losing, horse-riding, pleiting posing angst. Not necessarily at the same time.

Only thing that can make that better is a Prisco review.

Posted by: dfizzle at January 7, 2010 4:51 PM

At 1:40 it says it's "funny, moving and profound". I didn't see a lot of yuks in there..
Kinda looks like "Bend it like Lolita" Maybe it's Gregory's Girl in reverse.
I'd read a review just to find out what this thing is. But I doubt I'd ever actually get a chance to see it.

Posted by: Odnon at January 7, 2010 6:04 PM
