I was already quite enthusiastic when I first read about A Dangerous Method; now I’m champing at the bit. To reiterate, Cronenberg, Mortensen, Fassbender, Cassel, sexy times. What more could you want? Oh, a chick? Will Keira Knightly do? Yes, I know she’s no Tits McBooberson, but she apparently does like some kink and you can make fun of her accent, so everyone wins. Though over time, Cronenberg has steered his moviemaking from straight-up horror to somewhat more mainstream and accessible films, he perseveres at exposing peoples’ dark sides. A Dangerous Method, based on Christopher Hampton’s play, The Talking Cure (which is in turn, based on John Kerr’s A Most Dangerous Method: The Story of Jung, Freud, and Sabina Spielrein) takes a look at the relationship between Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortensen) and Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender), who clearly have different ideas about the doctor patient relationship. Keira Knightly plays accentually challenged Russian, Sabina Spielrein (one of the first female psychoanalysts), who comes between them and Vincent Cassel is a troublemaking, terribly coiffured, fellow patient. But that’s enough from me, watch this most excellent trailer:

If you’re anything like me, this is the image that stuck in your head:

If not, perhaps you should watch Secretary?

A Dangerous Method will premiere at the 68th Venice Film Festival, which begins August 31st, so the wait for wide release seems much too far off. Perhaps I’ll pass time by just reviewing this trailer over and over and over…

I won't lie. I'm totally a sadist. Well, a bit of a sadomasochist.

There's nothing wrong with mixing a little pain with pleasure.

*I so would have been in a mental institution a hundred years ago.

Also, there's a big difference between this and Secretary.

Posted by: DeistBrawler at June 22, 2011 7:19 PM

I'd like a Fass-spanking.

Should heterosexual men who are moved by the attractiveness of the actor portraying Jung be referred to as Fassbender's?

Posted by: FyreHaar at June 22, 2011 7:41 PM

Yay, I love Keira, and Viggo, and Fassbender! This movie looks delicious.

Posted by: kayla at June 22, 2011 8:00 PM

Yes, Deist, definitely different. But how many mainstream spanking movies are there?

Posted by: Cindy at June 22, 2011 8:07 PM

on another site a girl described "Secretary" like this: "He beats her n stuff but it's a really cool love story"

Posted by: logan at June 22, 2011 8:10 PM

You had me at Tits McBooberson.

Posted by: Johnnyboy at June 22, 2011 8:26 PM

Seem to have lost the ability to speak...words will not...I can't....gaaaahhhh.

Viggo Mortensen is a man of particularly delectable facial hair. The way his beard hugs the curve of his lip is mesmerizing.

HHHHHNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aaaahhhhhhh. Okay...deep breaths...

I WANT THEIR CLOTHES.

Posted by: Meander at June 23, 2011 12:03 AM

That mustache looks a little porny to me. Do not like.

Spanking Kiera's bony backside does not interest me. If it were Christina Hendricks backside I would be much more interested.

It's amazing how Fassbender has been exploding in the scene lately. I remember watching Hex and being totally mesmerized by him.
As for the movie, Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensen have done exceptional work together in the last few years, so this is definitely added to my To Watch list.

Perhpas Knightley's accent trouble is intentional, given that it changes "Do you want to stop?" into "Do you want to schtup?".

Posted by: sprophet at June 23, 2011 3:01 AM

All I can see when I look at Fassbender in this is Guy Pierce. idk why bc I just came from seeing XMen and all I could see when I looked at him was a ginger Jon Hamm, which I was quite alright with but this...this I do not want.

Keira Knightly and her wonky accent need to just not.

Posted by: beet salad at June 23, 2011 3:18 AM

Alright, Hollywood. I get it. You want me to go to the movies more. Fine.

Posted by: Mrs Napoleon at June 23, 2011 5:52 AM

So Keira puts on an accent and a wonky one at that, but no one else does? Doesn't seem like it was done for any good reason.

I have no particular feelings about the trailer, but based on that image alone, I will be in my goddamned bunk.

Posted by: embertine at June 23, 2011 2:20 PM

This should be fun.

Posted by: Nicolae at June 23, 2011 9:11 PM

Oh.

Oh my.

Posted by: Maryscott O'Connor at June 23, 2011 9:48 PM

Apart for his merits - who were exaggerated anyway, like it happens in the cases of many famous Jews - Freud was a perverted scummy one who had sex with his own daughter and other female relatives. Dont expect the movie to say or even hint to that, its not politically correct. Sorry for Mortensen and Fassbender to act in such a crap...

Posted by: XYZ at June 24, 2011 4:48 AM

The music in the trailer is amazing. Does anyone recognize it?

Posted by: Upstate at June 24, 2011 1:49 PM

The two filmverse loves of my life in one movie with my longest-ever girlcrush? OH YES.

And, this might be the 12-y.o. boy in me speaking, but something about the name Viggo and Fassbender sounds dirtayy to mine ears. Lust.
