E.T. Grows Up, Hits the Bong, and Parties with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost

Quickie Poll: Greg Mottola (Superbad, Adventureland) or Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz)? Currently, I’d give the edge to Wright because of Shaun, but it’s a small margin, and Paul — the teaser of which is below — might pull Mottola slightly ahead of Wright, depending on how Paul turns out.

I really just like the idea of bickering of which is the best of two brilliant directors.

Paul has seemingly been in the works for years — it’s an adult version of E.T. crossed with a road trip movie crossed with a couple of comic-book geeks crossed with some pretty good weed, best I can tell. It was written by its two stars, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, who have been planning it for eons, and Seth Rogen provides the voice of the alien.

The teaser doesn’t give away too much, and while I was feeling good vibes, the appearance of Jason Bateman elevated my optimism even more.

Simon Pegg looks like something that was raised in a cave, but I still totally would. Which either means that I'm not shallow, or that I'm sluttier than I thought.

Seth Rogen's voice coming out of the alien's mouth is just wrong. The two guys needed southern rednecky accents, and the alien needed a British accent. I think that's in the rules.

Agreed, BWeaves. I'm pretty sure it's in the bible. You know, that part with the aliens and probing and such?

Oh quit yer bellyachin'. You've already got "Morons From Outer Space" in which they were both British and rednecks!

They better fuck that alien or I'm gonna be pissed.

The voice is off-putting because we know it's Seth Rogen's voice (blatantly so). Besides that, it's Pegg and Frost wearing two of the worst haircuts known to man and having a blast.

I will so see this.

My heart says yes, but my eyes and ears say good Godtopus, no. Do I follow my heart or my actual senses?

Paul? The alien's name is Paul? It should have been Tampax.

Pegg and Frost being associated with Rogen makes me lose a lot of respect for them. I have a feeling this movie is gonna have less dry, intelligent British humor and more "DOOOOOD!!! I'm an alien!!! Let's get baked!!!".

Am I the only one that thought ADVENTURELAND was f*cking boring?

No junierizzle. I hated it.

Check out the rest of the cast: Jane Lynch, Sigourney Weaver, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Jefrey Tambor and many more. That spells "winnah!"

Make that three. I lost count of how many times I fell asleep watching that movie. I ended up having to take drugs to watch the whole thing from beginning to end without dozing off. It felt like it went for an eternity. But that could have just been the drugs. It was still boring, drugs or no drugs.
