A Case of the Mondays

Amber Benson and Adam Busch (Tara and Warren, respectively, of “Buffy” fame) have teamed up to co-direct a film called “Drones,” which appears to be a cross-pollination of the office slacker comedy and the aliens infiltrating and invading science fiction flicks, the love child of “V” and “Office Space.” It’s an independent film but landed a fairly impressive second tier cast with Samm Levine, Angela Bettis, Jonathan Woodward, and Dave Allen. Although she’s the co-director, Amber Benson unfortunately doesn’t pull a Shyamalan and give herself a role, probably because her SAG contract forbids her from appearing on screen unless making out with Alyson Hannigan.

Two trailers have gone up online over the last month, showing very different angles of the film. First they released this one:

Then this one:

I think what happened is that the first trailer is just a little too indie cutesy romance with the sci-fi element so muted as to come across as little more than a couple funny lines that could be interpreted as indie cutesy slightly crazy girl a la Zooey Deschanel. The second trailer gives off more of a Shaun of the Dead vibe, but feels really forced without giving much of a hint of the actual plot other the than romance angle.

The film sees daylight at the Slamdance Film Festival next week so we should get a better idea then if it succeeds at bridging a happy medium between those two trailers.

Which she did, what, three times on "Buffy"?

Oooh, somebody's bitter...

OT but since you mention it: I saw "Shaun of the Dead" last night for the first time, and while I appreciate that it set the stage for wonders like "Zombieland," I laughed more during "Dead Snow." Lots more, IIRC. And I was all primed (beer and whiskey) to bust a guy laughing at Shaun.

Anyhoo, carry on.

I like Jonathan Woodward a lot. Both these trailers made me want to see the movie.

Ah hell, I'm totally in. What? It's cute. This is the kind of cute I like. (As opposed to the 500 Days of Summer kind of cute.) I guess what I'm trying to say is, aliens make everything better.

Also, there was no Shaun of the Dead vibe for me because, um, no actual aliens showed up. I have a twinge-y fear that the whole premise is that the main girl is actually cuh-RA-zeey. (I'd prefer actual aliens.)

Sorry I'm rambling, but it's early where I live.

I like Amber Benson. That's all I have to say.

No mention that James Urbaniak is in this. Doctor Venture himself!

Amber was in "One-Eyed Monster", which would have benefited greatly from Amber/Alyson snogging. Actually, it would have benefitted greatly by not existing at all. To say Amber was the best thing in it is like saying peanuts are the best thing in sh...never mind.

Is "One-Eyed Monster" the one with the disembodied flying penis?

Ever feel that you would easily see yourself fitting into his / her life despite the age difference? http://AgelessOnly.com is a good place.

They stole that "blow up the earth where a guy keeps all his stuff verbatim from The Tick, so I'm calling bullshit on whoever says they wrote this, becasue I'm sure the rest of it is basically plagarised. No I'm not over reacting becasue there is no way that that was coincidence.

You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this matter to be really something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complex and very broad for me. I'm looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of it!

I'm so tired of seeing all these spam comments. It's a sin that blogs are getting polluted this way.

Well written post, and i also currently knew that some groups are more likely than others (since we are all unique) would share the same idea. I hope you save this blog performing well.

Cheers for the good material included within your website, this is a trivial question for your blog readers. Who actually proclaimed the following quotation? . . . .Men always want to be a woman's first love. Women have a more subtle instinct: What they like is to be a man's last romance.
