Don't Muzzle the Statham. Liberate Him!

If there’s one thing that Jason Statham movies are normally good for — the final product, be damned — are damn fine trailers. They’re normally 2 and a half minutes of shirtless Statham driving cars, shooting people, kicking ass, and taking off his shirt.

The trailer for 13, however, is decidedly slow — reminds me a little too much of the Statham/Guy Ritchie Kaballah film I’m trying to scrub from my memory. The movie, a remake of the French film, 13 Tzameti, stars Statham, Mickey Rourke, 50 Cent, and Ray Winstone. It’s also directed by Géla Babluani, who directed the original French film. But the trailer doesn’t hold a lot of appeal, but then again, the trailer for The Bank Job wasn’t so great, either, and that’s my favorite Statham film. So, who knows? The idea of mass Russian roulette does sound intriguing.

I've seen the original 13 Tzameti and it is quite a slow paced film.
You wouldn't watch it and think of Jason Statham and 50 Cent.

And if The Vanishing and Funny Games set any precedent, having the original director on board is no mark of quality for a remake.

Revolver is severely misunderstood and features Statham's best performance (tied with London). If you view it as the kaballah film, that's your loss.

statham actioners (transporter and crank franchise) are fun, but I prefer his other films--especially london and revolver, but also italian job, snatch and bank job.

I'm in for this new one with him, rourke and shannon

I wouldnt have guessed it was a remake of 13 Tzameti (that I saw a while ago when it was in theater here) with 50 cent in it.
I wonder if they'll keep the feel of that movie.

13 Tzameti was a fucking disturbing movie, and yes, the casting looks dubious.

Apparently the translation of poor immigrant romanian worker from french gives "Jason Statham" in english...
