Martial Arts Kickassery ... In French

Have you seen Banlieue 13 (aka District 13 or District B13)? No? Why not? It’s an uneven, imperfect film to be sure, but who gives a shit. It also features some absolutely jaw-dropping action sequences, and some martial arts badassery that will make your average kung fu fan fucking weep. Much like Ong Bak, you don’t watch it for the story, you watch it for the action. You watch it to see Cyril Raffaelli and David Belle jump around and beat the holy hell out of a mess of people. Of course, scriptwriter Robert Mark Kamen is supposedly working on an American remake (completely unnecessary, of course), but in the meantime, there is a sequel coming out.

Patrick Alessandrin directed Banlieue 13: Ultimatum, which has already been released in Europe, but now we have the American trailer for it (it’s due for a US release in February). It features Raffaelli and Belle once again fighting their way through District 13, and it looks completely awesome. As much as I like subtlety and nuance in movies, I could care less when it comes to these. Give me some basic plot, and then just take the leash off of them and watch them tear through the movie. The sequel appears to do just that.

You know, even the voice over detracts from the trailer. What the hell is it with American re-makes? Can Amurricans not read? Is that the problem?

SQUEE!!! District B-13 is one of my favorite movies of all time! Have been panting for this sequel! If, by chance, you haven't seen the original, then let me suggest that you watch it in french with the english subtitles. The english overdub is so bad that it really takes away from the flick. Just be sure to see it, if you haven't! Oh, and I called dubs on David Belle years ago, so back off ladies...and gents.

Yeah, the English dub is just wrong, if only for the fact that everybody seems to have either a British accent, or a fake American one. And don't get me started on the frustrating tendency to call the movie District B13.

Bullshit. Somebody was probably goffing off on there. It isn't even up anymore. Besides, Ultimatum is Hollywood enough. And that isn't worse than:

Ghettogangz 2 - Ultimatum (Germany DVD title)
Ultimate 2: Muscle Never Die (Japan translated title)

Ah, you meant the remake. I was thinking that was going to be the release title for Ultimatum.

Yeah that does suck donkey balls.

It's drivel. Hugely enjoyed the first one, but the second is completely tedious.

I watched this last night - non dubbed version. Honestly ? Its a compete turd. The plot, is so barely there, you wonder why they bother at all and apart from one scene near the beginning where the dark haired guy escapes from the baddies from his flat across the rooftops which is pretty cool, I couldn't recall to you now, a single scene. I really wouldn't waste your time. It's shite.

*jumps up and down* PARKOUR PARKOUR PARKOUR!

I'm a sucker for a good parkour scene. I can't wait.

(The remake can just go to hell though.)

Banlieu 13 came out ages ago in Europe. good movie. Why is the remake being done now? And what's the point?

Posted by: barf at December 2, 2009 1:58 PM

YES! I cannot watch the first 5 minutes of B-13 with a massive grin...it's spectacular. An American remake is incredibly unnecessary, happily awaiting Ultimatum.

I loved the original so much, I went out and started learning parkour myself (the New England Parkour kids are amazing and great teachers). I'll go see the sequel just to watch them jumping around with the bonus of keeping myself inspired to keep practicing.

Already saw this in France earlier this year. And as someone who liked the first one, I can honestly say that the sequel friggin' blows. I barely remember any good action scenes and obviously the plot is totally pointless. It was a real disappointment.

Please, PLEASE everyone who loved the first one, don't get your hopes up. I gotta echo the others that said the sequel blows.

You get maybe 3 set pieces, 1 parkour scene and about an hour too much of nonsensical plot bull-ish, posturing, and speechifying. And there may have been a political message slathered on top.
Movie was a waste of resources.

I found a HOTTEST interracial club =MixedConnect--*__*--C 0 M=for black Women and white Men, or black Men and white Women, to interact with each other. Interracial is not a problem here, but a great merit to cherish!
