Chronicle Trailer: Superheroes In A Found Footage Movie That Might Be Worth Seeing

I’m tired of the found footage movies, people. Tired. Tired of the hauntings, tired of the screaming, tired of the sniffling and crying and “I’m so scared!” The idea isn’t totally without merit, I’d just like to see something new.

Enter Chronicle, a little film from 26 year-old director Josh Trank and starring Dane DeHaan (“In Treatment”), Michael B. Jordan (“Parenthood,” “Friday Night Lights”) and Alex Russell. It’s about three friends who stumble into a mysterious… something… and gain superpowers. With one of them filming, their powers gradually grow stronger, but their friendship begins to fracture as they drift towards good or evil.

Take a look:

I admit, I’m intrigued. It looks like some impressive low-budget effects, and while the story isn’t exactly a new one, it’s told in a different enough fashion from both found footage films and superhero films that it’s piqued my interest.

Whaddaya think?

Count me in! Looks awesome.

Whoa. I think I'm in.

And if I had that power? Well, the temptation to move assholes out of my way on the highway would be enormous, but I think I could be very happy just going up to campus and mind-removing the clothing from every coed in front of the student union at lunchtime.

Won't play for Canadians? Fuck that.

In with both feet.

Jordan is a great young actor who has been tearing it up on the small screen, and here's hoping he can bring it to the big one.

See instead of rebooting Superman a million times and crapping up the screen with Green Lantern, this is a super powers movie. Im in

this does look interesting. but seeing this trailer, and watching trollhunter, i still wonder what the point of 'found footage/faux documentary is? it wasn't even well done in troll hunter as half the time the camera was on everyone, so who supposedly is filming? when the genre or mode consists of nothing more than shaky videocams why is it desriable? why not just film it like a normal movie?

Posted by: idleprimate at October 20, 2011 1:40 PM

sure. it's a lazy trope. but i can forgive a lot if there are some interesting ideas present.

I agree with idleprimate. Everything that Matt Reeves claimed he tried to accomplish with Cloverfield, The Host did better among other things. Surprised they are having such a problem getting on that remake, actually.

Apparently I'm from fucking Narnia, so I didn't watch. I refuse to click the alternate link out of A) spite, and B) The realization that I should be studying for midterms.

man it would be super cool if Pajiba could start checking to see if the trailers they embed could actually be viewed by people outside of America.

It would be super cool if lazy people didn't bitch.
