Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace Reunite, Rekindle, and Rock Russian Accents

This past weekend, I caught two cute-puppy-related films, one of which was The Drop, featuring Noomi Rapace, Tom Hardy and James Gandolfini (*sniff*). Hardy and Rapace played a pair of newly connected characters with a whole lot of chemistry; now they get the chance to take their courting to the next level.

In Daniel Espinosa’s (Safe House) adaptation of Tom Rob Smith’s Child 44, Hardy plays Leo Demidov, a Soviet security agent investigating a series of child murders (based on real serial killer, Andrei Chikatilo). Going after a killer in a place where the state avers there is no crime can get a little tricky, and though Demidov faces public dishonor, he and his wife Raisa (Rapace) carry on with the hunt. The film features an amazing cast, including Game of Thrones’ Charles Dance (and Tara Fitzgerald), Vincent Cassel, Joel Kinnaman, Jason Clarke, Paddy Considine, Sam Spruell, Ned Dennehy…oh, and another of Hardy’s actor pals:

The way Hardy loves everyone just like a puppy is just too damned adorable.

Sorry, I got distracted there… Here’s the trailer, which features everyone in their Sunday best Slavic accents.

It’s all very dark and dramatic, but let’s get real — if we’re watching, it’s for the actors (and maybe to poke a leetle fun at their Russian); Vincent Cassel, it’s been far too long!

The script was written by Richard Price (The Wire, Sea of Love, Color of Money), and Ridley Scott was lurking in the background, so put up or shut up April 17th.

They shoulda brought the puppy!
