Ron Weasley is Bad. Ass.

Goddayum I’m getting old. First of all, Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning take the leads in the upcoming Runaways biopic, as Joan Jett and Cherie Curie (and how weird is it to picture those two as punk-rock(ish) Grrrrls. I’d keep waiting for Fanning to start singing into a hairbrush. Then there was Daniel Radcliffe performing a sexual act while naked and mounted on a horse in the London production of Equus. And now Rupert Grint, a.k.a., Ronald Weasley, is playing a sexy-time drug addict in Cherrybomb, about three teenagers who embark on a weekend of drugs, alcohol, shop-lifting, and car theft. It also stars Kimberly Nixon and Robert Sheehan.

It’s hard to make heads or tails of the quality of the film from this trailer, but the Ronald Weasley as a bad ass disconnect is jarring, to say the least. What’s next? Emma Watson and Abigail Breslin in a lesbian stripper flick?

That cute 10 year old from Sorcerers Stone is making a movie about drug addiction?

I feel way older than a 16 year old should.

I think my brain just broke.

Posted by: Blonde Savant at April 6, 2009 10:10 AM

I don't think Mugglenet's gonna post that trailer.

Posted by: Jay at April 6, 2009 10:10 AM

You're right, I can't tell whether the movie will be shite or not, based on that trailer. It does look like it has potential though.

Props to the Harry Twatter gang for branching out and avoiding the pigeon holing that most child actors get.

God that sounded dirty.

Posted by: admin at April 6, 2009 10:12 AM

What's with the floopy hair? I'm incredibly disturbed by the fact that when I watch this, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna find Ron Weasley all sexy-like. I'm a sucker for a cute ginger.

Posted by: jamiepants at April 6, 2009 10:13 AM

Rupert Grint is a pretty good actor, I'm kind of excited to see him play something so different.

Jesus, when the first Harry Potter movie came out I was in college...we all sat around and watched the cast on the Rosie O'Donnell show and squealed about how cute they were. I am old old old.

Posted by: Julie at April 6, 2009 10:14 AM

I'm kind of digging his hair.

Is that effect with the texting in the movie, or is that an affectation just for the trailer? It's pretty cool.

Posted by: Snath at April 6, 2009 10:15 AM

It is Trainspottish (Yeah, I know, I just made up a new adjective), but I think Grint's got the chops to pull it off.

Posted by: DaddyO at April 6, 2009 10:18 AM

But, yeah, Ronnie the Bear is a badass.

Posted by: Jay at April 6, 2009 10:18 AM

I pray there are some misguided parents who think because he was in Harry Potter this will be a "feel good" family movie and they will scar their young children forever! Note to parents: actors play different roles and some are not suitable for five year olds!

Posted by: scorzi at April 6, 2009 10:32 AM

Meh... The trailer has every cliche in the book, for that type of movie. Looks like it represents the movie well, too. Pass.

Posted by: Al X at April 6, 2009 10:32 AM

oh thankyou grint... you fucktard... bringing us gingers out of the cultural ghetto with ur long floppy hair... ur not a ginger hugh grant and ur not here to convince everyone that ginger males arent anything but gormless twats. ur the ginger equivalent of mammy and u haunt my dreams and my waking nightmares as people shout ur name at me down the street.

Posted by: jim of the lower case at April 6, 2009 10:33 AM

oh and that was a pretty boring trailer. what no voiceover or dialogue??? bah

Posted by: jim at April 6, 2009 10:34 AM

Emma.. Lesbian strippers..

That would be inspiring. For many things ofcourse.

And I would really like it when all you 20'somethingers would stop complaining of your age.

Old..
pffffffffft.

Posted by: Magiel at April 6, 2009 10:34 AM

Jim of the lower case, did I ever tell you that you look exactly like Ron Weasley?

:p

Posted by: Julie at April 6, 2009 10:35 AM

I am increasingly and exceedingly disturbed by how hot I find Rupert Grint.

You better believe I'm seeing this.

Posted by: Anna von Beaverplatz at April 6, 2009 10:38 AM

Julie no doubt you probably have told me before shouted Ron Weasley at me.

Interestingly when i had short hair and was smaller and scrawnier two competing groups of drunks got in a fight over whether I looked more like Harry Potter (I wear glasses) or Ron Weasley needless to say there was no winning team just me in the middle getting drinks spilled all over me as they realised no one would win this argument but they could just soak me instead.

Posted by: jim of the lower case at April 6, 2009 10:47 AM

damn meant for there to be an or

like mr grint i lack the ability to construct sentences. all the gurning punctuates my speech and typing in a bad way.

Posted by: jim of the lower case at April 6, 2009 10:49 AM

AvB - You've got nothing to worry about, he's totally legal. In fact, as of August 24th, he'll even be able to drink in this country.

Posted by: tamatha at April 6, 2009 10:51 AM

Anyone else getting a Frank-n-furter vibe from the brunette kid?

Posted by: BWeaves at April 6, 2009 11:00 AM

BWeaves - I can see where you're coming from.

admin: avoiding the pigeon holing
I think I saw someone's "pigeon hole" in there somewhere.
The movie does look kind interesting though. Harry Potter and the Crack Pipe of Adolescent Rebellion.

Posted by: Odnon at April 6, 2009 11:22 AM

I am a tad uncomfortable with the nudity in that trailer. In my pants, that is.

Posted by: marya at April 6, 2009 11:52 AM

"Trainspotting Jr.", which would be ok by me if they didn't choose a song simply too reminiscent of "Lust for Life".

Posted by: Ling at April 6, 2009 11:57 AM

He looks hot as a bad ass ginger.

Posted by: soda at April 6, 2009 12:09 PM

That trailer is full of babies doing bad things!

Then there was Daniel Radcliffe performing a sexual act while naked and mounted on a horse in the London production of Equus.

He did it in New York too. It was a tad bit disturbing, but he was great in the role.

Posted by: Cindy at April 6, 2009 12:26 PM

What’s next? Emma Watson and Abigail Breslin in a lesbian stripper flick?

Yes, please.

Posted by: idgiepug at April 6, 2009 12:39 PM

I am increasingly and exceedingly disturbed by how hot I find Rupert Grint.

I'm just disturbed that I've found him that hot since about 2001, AvB.

Posted by: lizzieborden at April 6, 2009 12:44 PM

Getting old is the WORST! Not only do my kids keep getting taller, and I keep becoming more irrelevant (except to the sweet ol' codgers tippin' a wink behind the cigar smoke) but all the baby actors are becoming frightfully desirable.

I require a holographic projection of my crinkly-eyed self before my face to keep me in check. Maybe a rear-view would settle the issue too! I guess I can still swan over Depp et al...not so bad, but...hand smack! No weetards!!!

Posted by: replica at April 6, 2009 1:00 PM

Ditto, lizzie and AvB. I'm so ashamed...

Posted by: Treena at April 6, 2009 1:04 PM

I saw Rupert Grint in a cute movie, Driving Lessons with Julie Walters as an eccentric actress for whom he works and does odd jobs.
I kind of adore Rupert--I have this weird, sick attraction to him and there should be some sort of support group.

Posted by: Sharon at April 6, 2009 1:24 PM

What was the song in the trailer?

Posted by: girlnone at April 6, 2009 1:26 PM

What’s next? Emma Watson and Abigail Breslin in a lesbian stripper flick?

Hey.. that was my idea first!!

Emma Watson and Abigail Breslin in a lesbian stripper flick?

*checks birthdays, sets a reminder*

Ohpleaseohpleaseohplease...

Posted by: lordhelmet at April 6, 2009 2:04 PM

I checked... he's legal. Drool away.

Posted by: Treena at April 6, 2009 2:19 PM

Oh wait, Rupert Grint is younger than I am? It's weird being 22 and discovering that them folks in the movies aren't always older now. So I was going to say that he still looks like a kid and that's weird, but given that he's like 20, nevermind, I guess it's not.

Posted by: Lucas at April 6, 2009 3:21 PM

The trailer reminded me of 'Go'. And wasn't that the same band that did the trailer for that movie where the kids met every Saturday evening for orgies. Blood Rain? Blood Leg? Blood Arm?

Posted by: ChrisD at April 6, 2009 5:42 PM

Cherrybomb is set in Belfast, and I'd be willing to bet that there's little talking in that trailer because their accents all blow chunks. Irish accents are always getting fucked up in film.

Hey it looks just like skins: The Movie!
Can't help but think I'll prob check it out, but in a morning session to avoid all the high school girls squealing and creaming their seats (my sister being one of them).

Posted by: soraya at April 6, 2009 6:29 PM

Yeah, it's Skins. Bored now.

Posted by: Gayle at April 6, 2009 6:32 PM

Despite my absolute disinterest for anything Harry Potter related I found the kid awesome since I read that the first thing he bought with his potter movie was an ice-cream track, a real proper one; since that was his alternative dream career.
and that is british coolness at its best.

Posted by: rio at April 6, 2009 9:29 PM

One of the HP directors (Mike Newell, maybe?) expressed his feeling that Rupert was the most likely to have a career beyond HP. I think he's going to be right, although I thought Sean Biggerstaff was great in Cashback and (years ago) The Winter Guest.

I hope my lust is somehow offset by the concomitant guilt. If Grint and Biggerstaff ever work together in a project, though, I'm bound to end up in a special hell. Especially if said project has homoerotic overtones...although my brain can fill that part in if necessary.

I'm just gonna have to face it: I'm a Ginger Chaser. I don't know what it is about red hair, freckles, and pale skin on a man that just drives me fucking insane, but there it is. And lucky for me, I know an inordinate amount of fiery-headed gay boys here in the South.

Meanwhile lots of fair women want a tan.

Just rub it in my face, why doncha!

Dammit, get me some tissues. WHYYYYYYYYYYY??????

Posted by: Jay at April 7, 2009 2:05 AM

You can rail about it all you want, but the truth of the matter is that Rupert Grint is fuck-me-in-the-mouth hott, and I have been watching the screen shots for this film for ages, drooling in increasing pools. Good movie, shmood movie; give me the DVD and some privacy.

And hell, he looks hot in the trailers for HP6 as well.

I have seen Cherrybomb and Rupert's accent according to some locals said it was better than some natives! So no Rupert didn't funk it up, he did amazing! But, don't expect Cherrybomb to be some big block buster smash. It's a low-budget indie film but I didn't even care about that because it was a good movie! It is a very character driven movie, very stylish and unique coming from Belfast newcomer directors Lisa Barros D'sa and Glenn Leyburn. The music was also brilliant. David Holmes produced and mixed it. Aside from Rupert I loved all of the characters and the script was great. Very dark but with also lots of funny moments too.

Posted by: jo at April 14, 2009 5:08 PM

Rupert is so talented, as is everyone involved in this movie, I'm very excited to watch it (also excited for Wild Target of course).
Snath: that's how it is in the movie, not just the trailer (which I think is great BTW)

Posted by: WJo at April 14, 2009 6:18 PM

csb, Rupert has a flawless accent which was said by everyone in Belfast that worked on the movie or who just saw the movie. (That includes people who didn't like the moive; they raved about Rupert's accent.) You can hear it a bit in different clips and at the end of the trailer. This is also a teaser trailer, just to get you interested. What better way than to show you a lot of different things and then end it by asking, "What do you want to know?"

But as to comment, Rupert is exceptional in this film. He has a completely different one coming up (which has been mentioned) called Wild Target where he does a comedic role along side Bill Nighy and Emily Blunt. This is what you do to prove your range and ability as an actor. He'll have three movies this year: Harry Potter, Cherrybomb and Wild Target - all with different characters and all different genres. :)
