Bryan Singer's Jack the Giant Killer Trailer Passes Up Golden Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum Catchphrase Opportunity

Having just watched About a Boy again, it’s so strange to see Nicholas Hoult all grown up, saving princesses, and killing giants. A decade ago, the kid couldn’t even carry a tune, and now he’s doing drugs in “Skins” and playing a young Kelsey Grammer in X-Men: First Class.

They grow up so fast, don’t they?

Here’s the trailer for Bryan Singer’s (The Usual Suspects, Superman Returns) Jack the Giant Killer, another fairy tale re-imagining that also features Ewen McGregor, Ian McShane, and someone I’d never heard of as the princess. The trailer doesn’t do much for me, but Christopher McQuarrie penned the screenplay, so I’m going to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Hrmm...

I think this would be better if they played Jack like Jack from "Fables."

More like Fee Fi Ho Hum, amirite?

Anyone?

I'll just go ahead and show myself out.

Nah, Ghisent, if I'd had the time/energy to post this, that's the exact headline I would've gone with. At this rate, Kristen Stewart's Snow White and the Huntsman is looking like the best bet for 2012's fairytale re-imagining sweepstakes.

And that's just lip bitingly sad.

How do we know it's not supposed to be Jack from Fables? I mean, when he went to Hollywood, he was going to call one of his movies "Jack the Giant Killer," and this DOES look like a Peter Jackson knock-off (seriously, we've seen the whole flying tree thing in LOTR).

And it bothers me that everyone else is in high fantasy costumes and Jack looks like he's wearing a leather aviator jacket.

Where did all these fantasy movies come from anyway? I don't seem to recall hearing all that much demand for them.

clumped around england in april. went to hampton court palace and they were filming this! wish i could claim a hoult or mcshane encounter but it was all just extras on set. will probably go see it just to point and declare.

That header pic looks like he's a just a few sparkles short of a Cullen.

it looked like a reasonable one for rental. i was charmed/almost-charmed a couple of times.

nobody panic. it's just a movie. hundreds more will open soon.

I CAN'T HELP IT OH GOD I'M PANICKING.

It certainly caught my attention.

Throwing burning trees into the castle courtyard, huh? Seems effective. Why didn't Saruman think of this?

"Don't get them wet" - good tip. Also, don't feed them after midnight...

Posted by: llp at December 16, 2011 12:17 PM

I think it looks really good. Let's not forget the Singer factor. Yes, I loved Superman Returns. Without shame.

"Don't get them wet".....So I guess showing them pictures of Ryan Reynolds would be prohibited?

"So I guess showing them pictures of Ryan Reynolds would be prohibited?"

I guess vomit is wet.

Wow, the trailer sure looks terrible. "Something Giant is Coming"? Wow, no shit.
I will probably watch this anyway since Nicholas Hoult is perfection and that boy is my Alison Brie. He can get it anytime.

I saw this trailer at the midnight showing of the new Sherlock Holmes flick. The entire audience laughed at the trailer, and not in an 'isn't this amusing?' way, but in a 'that is horrifically bad!' way. It was then followed by the trailer for the new Batman movie which was greeted with cheers and applause. The difference between the reception of the two was quite striking.

You had me at The Usual Suspects, you lost me at Superman Returns.

They really need to stop doing all these "Fables" knock-offs, and just get someone awesome to actually adapt Fables!
Snow White kicks ass? Check
Living in the modern world? Check
"Jack the Giant Killer"? Check

If they fuck up my beloved Bigby or Boy Blue, it's on.

Besides, this movie is supposed to be part 2 of the trilogy. Duh.
