The Statham. 'Nuff Said.

I gotta tell you, this trailer doesn’t look particularly compelling. Blitz, a new British crime thriller due out later this year, features Jason Statham as “a tough cop is dispatched to take down a serial killer who has been targeting police officers.” Yeah, I know. Sounds sort of USA original movie-ish, or direct to DVD-ish, at the least. However, before you judge it, there are a few items of note that elevate my interest beyond the trailer:

1. The Statham.
2. Paddy Considine, a terribly underused actor
3. The STATHAM
4. Aiden Gillen, aka Tommy Carcetti from “The Wire”
5. THE. FUCKING. STATHAM

And finally, the screenplay is by Nathan Parker. Parker only has one other screenwriting credit to his name, but it’s a doozy — he wrote the screenplay for Duncan Jones’ Moon. That’s a hell of a start.

Check the trailer:

Now, I realize there was a shortage of Statham shirtlessness, and for that, my decrepit readers, I apologize. Allow me to make it up to you:

Looks like utter shite.

But...

Statham and Gillen. There's no way I'm going to miss this!

Carcetti was in 12 Rounds where he harassed John Cena over the phone. I hope this is better, at the end it looks like they're playing with more complicated themes like criminal celebrity. So combine it with Statham kicking the shit out of things and maybe there's something to it.

The Statham was filming "Safe" in Philadelphia this weekend - near the Comcast Center.

Aiden Gillen and Statham in the same flick? Aiden Gillen from "Queer as Folk, Original Recipe, UK"?

Okay. Go to IMDB. Search Aiden Gillen's name. View the picture of Mr. Gillen with a kitten on his shoulder.

I'll wait....

You're welcome.
