Dumbass Trailer Editors Just Horse Tranquilized Nic Cage

You wanna see something messed up? A couple of months ago, we ran an early not-really-meant for mass audiences trailer for Warner Herzog’s Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, starring Nic Cage. And whatever you want to say about remaking that film, the trailer looks balls-out, hair-rising, giggle-yourself-to-oblivion awesome. In it, Nic Cage is at his best bat-shit self, and it’s most definitely a movie that looked worth watching, if only for the soul-blazing insanity of Cage. Here’s a refresher, if you’re interested:

Well, today, the trailer that audiences are meant to see has been released. I’m going to choose to believe — particularly in light of positive film festival coverage — that the first trailer is more indicative of what we can expect. Cause this one: It’s a goddamn mainstream travesty — the trailer editors seem to have made a painstaking effort to make the movie look more like a more contemporary Nic Cage movie. Very little of the crazy seeps through; it’s dulled down and rounded at the edges. This movie I’m not all that interested in. The one above, however, I can’t wait for. And the people who see this trailer and go in expecting the Nic Cage from the last five years, I think, are going to be in for a unsettling surprise.

It's WERNER, not Warner.

Goddamn it, I'm 'bout to smack a muthafucka.

And the trailer is no longer available. EVERYTHING IS FALLING APART.

I don't care about either trailer. Unless this movie involves Cage disguised as a bear and punching out lesbians, or challenging Hayden Christensen for Worst Self-Immolation Caught on Film, then I am not interested. I'll stay home and watch Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter.

This is why I'm about ready to give up trailers completely. Either way too much information or way too little.

And that's when we're lucky. Sometimes they are simply outright misleading.

Since it's well established that we can't trust trailers.... why bother with them anymore?

The crew told him they got him a deal with the IRS where in exchange for working as a cop he could wipe out the $6+ million he owes, gave him a badge and then just followed him around. So, that really IS Nic's "lucky crack pipe".

Warner... Yup. Great Job.

I only hope they used Ketamine on Nic.

At least one person would be enjoying themselves.

Nic Cage is still alive? I thought he had died and they were using a robot to stand in for him.

Yeah, trailers either tell you too much, not enough or outright deceive. The only difference between these two seems to be the skill of the trailer editor. But I like Nic in both. He has that crazy edginess back.
