Because More Noomi Rapace Is Never A Bad Thing

Here’s the trailer for the new Norwegian thriller Babycall, directed by Pål Sletaune and starring The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star Noomi Rapace. It’s hard to get the gist of it from the trailer, and I’ll give you the synopsis, but you should watch it first. Because it’s moderately interesting, and then about two thirds of the way into it, it scared the bejesus out of me.

Via Twitch:

Rapace plays a woman essentially living in hiding with her young baby after getting out of an abusive relationship. Left scarred and timid by the relationship and basically praying not to be noticed by anyone for any reason her life is turned upside down when her baby monitor picks up signals from other apartments in her building, one signal in particular waking her with what seems to be the sound of someone being killed.

Yikes. It’s clearly got a kind of Rear Window homage vibe to it, but man, coupled with the domestic violence aspect to it — the fear of discovery, the need to be left alone — it’s a pretty gripping concept.]

Rapace has roughly a billion projects on her itinerary right now (including Sherlock Holmes 2 and the Alien prequel), but this clever looking little thriller will be a nice appetizer for whatever else is coming. It comes out in Norway in March, though no word on when it’ll make its way to the rest of the world.

Well I don't watch trailers so I didn't watch that trailer but Noomi did make me wanna watch that particular trailer. I didn't though.

Good luck to her. Hope the Hollywood machine doesn't chew her up and spit her out on the side of the road.

That being said, if it did, it'd be nice to see her tattoo-rape Hollywood in the face.

This looks good. I'm mostly intrigued though by what appears to be her talking to a Blockbuster employee about baby monitors.

Blockbuster employees wear blue. That's clearly Target.

*indignantly harrumphs*

It's Norway. They might wear different colors at Busterblok.

Oh it'll come over here. Scandinavia is the new craze. Film makers and book publishers are turning the whole place upside down and sniffing in every frosted blond blue-eyed armpit looking to capitalize on Larsson's success. I just hope whatever they find is closer to Book 1 than Books 2 and 3.

Okay...I happen to remember a little classic called Baby Monitor: Sound of Fear, aired on the USA Network with a masterful performance by Josie Bissett?
Nothing, and I mean nothing, can top watching a hitman singing "Baa Baa Black Sheep" to a baby right after he kills the wrong babysitter. That's the kind of classic performance that burns itself into the brain.
I'm not sure I could fully enjoy this movie after being shaped by such cinema classique. Oh Josie Bissett, how I miss you...

Ooooo. OOoooooo. I can tell a story!

My next door neighbor had a little girl...then he got a divorce. Of course, he still had a little girl, but now the little girl lived with her mom. Anyway, because now he was a single man without a little girl, we would party at his house. All the time. So we're over there one day and I'm fucking around and turn on the baby monitor.

What do we hear?

The sounds of sex. Our first thought is that we're picking up one of the neighbors watching a porno (We assumed this certain neighbor because they were the only ones around with a little kid...our assumption was correct). Sure enough, we hear the sound of a childs footsteps coming up a flight of stairs...(the sounds of sex stop) then yelling.
"Go back downstairs!"
"But dad?!"
"Do as I say."
There go the feet back downstairs...cue the sex sounds.

So we listen for awhile, they stop, and then we notice something. Two voices talking...a man and a woman. But! Oh Snap! The wife is gone! So if homeboy wasn't watching a porno, who is he cheating on his wife with? Who, by the way, was the MILF of the neighborhood.

So, there we are, all 15 of us. Crowded around the window. Waiting to see who emerges. Who does emerge? The guys neighbors wife! Man, cheating with your next door neighbor...that's just lazy.

We died laughing.

Also was no one bothered by the getup they have her in for the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo films? I haven't seen them, but the pictures make it look like what a 50 year old man thinks punk or goth is.

Hey! This thing aint in American!

Posted by: logan at January 11, 2011 12:55 PM

Approximate translation:

Rapace- I heard something I don’t understand
Kristoffer Joner- You’ve probably heard the sound of another babycall
......
Rapace- (do you) think I’m just imagining things?
Kristoffer Joner- We better hope so
.....
Babycall scream- No no, I don’t want to!
....
Child- You mustn’t say anything, because then it’ll only get worse.

It'a an Expert store.

I like that header pic!

Makes me wanna roll around in the grass with her, not even in sexual way though, just roll around together like in those family movies about romance.

Never understood the appeal of it before!

As Margrete said, it's an Expert store. They sell all forms of consumer electronics.

I'm not sure why, but that trailer struck me as genuinely creepy - and made me v. glad our baby monitors are put away now. (I'm suggestible like that.)
